Massapequa/Massapequa Park Mommy & Me
So my BFF works full time and her hubby is home with there 1year old daughter. He took her to a mommy & Me group at the Massapequa Park Public Library but they wouldn't let him participate because he isn't a mom. First of all I think this is sooooo wrong, but he won't let my BFF complain. Does anyone know where he can take his daughter so she can have some fun time with other kids????

I bring my boys to Bellmore Library for Storytime and there are a few Dads with their kids.

That's ridiculous. DH is a teacher so this past summer he did a library program with DD. there were other dads, grandparents, etc. he is paying library taxes and should be allowed? Maybe he doesn't want to and that's why he won't let your BFF complain ?

WOW. I'd def complain and bring it higher up if need be. That kind of discrimination should not be tolerated in any environment, esp not involving children activities, and certainly not by a municipal agency. I'd find that to easily be a federal con law issue. Absolutely unacceptable IMO.

I'm a teacher so my mom takes my DD to Tots on Track.....love it. Plus, there are dads there, too.

I never heard that before. Most mommy and me's I have done throughtout the years with my three kids have a dad or two there!
I also do Tots on Track in Bellmore. I was doing Matts Gym in Bellmore (there was a dad there) but just recently switched to Tots on Track. My daughter loves it there. There has been a dad there but more dads go on Saturdays.
Seaford Library has good programs and last I did classes there you don't have to be fomr Seaford (bellmore library gives 1st priority to Bellmore card residents). All American in Bellmore has mommy and me and very dad friendly as well.

That was my first thought to....but my bff is positive it happened....I'm really not so sure, but hey she's supposed to trust her husbands word, right?

I agree that it's an issue but it's their choice whether to pursue it.
Seems like there are some other good options from posters.

There are mommy and me classes that you need to register for and say child needs to be accompanied by a parent and then there are other open classes where you just go if you are free.
I thing the daddy is fibbing.

I have issues with the Massapequa Library programs as well. I always was a ftwm and they don't offer weekend classes so I could never take advantage of the free programs. This year I am a ptwm and the classes fell on a day I had off. I signed up DS who is 2. I also had a 7 month old DS and assumed (like at every other class I have gone to and paid to take) that I could bring DS2 and he would just hang in the stroller. I was told NO siblings were allowed which I find ridiculous. I was really upset because I felt like to take advantage of these programs not only do I have to be home during the week but also have a babysitter for my other child.
I was really annoyed. I am still planning on calling and voicing my opinion. We pay too much in taxes for this!
The idea that a dad can't participate is disgusting and I would absolutely complain!

Was this the Central Ave. library in Massapequa.? That's totally ridiculous. I have been taking my granddaughter to mommy & me there for months now and there are ALWAYS dads & grandparents there.

I have also taken my daughter to that mommy and me, and there are plenty of dads, and grandfathers. Could he possibly be making that up because hes not comfortable?
