anyone use a midwife for their birth or have a home birth?
am looking around for a midwife and was wondering if anyone could share their experience. also am really interested in a home birth and would love to hear about the experience. TIA!! 
ETA: Dale is no longer doing home births. A woman named Julie has taken over. Dale only delivers at Nassau Hospital now.

I didn't do a homebirth, but I used Melanie @ Garden City OBGYN. If you use her, she will see you for all your visits and deliver you. There are 2 docs there also, but you don't seem them at all unless there is a prob. They are her dr backups.
She was fantastic during delivery- no tears or anything :)

Gaia midwives does homebirths, and I think there are a few others on LI too.

I did not have a home birth, but I used Stony Brook Midwives. They have a few offices in Suffolk, and they deliver at Stony Brook Hospital. I had 2 WONDERFUL experiences with them and cannot say enough good things about them. HTH, and good luck!

i used a midwife for both of my pregnancies and wouldn't have it any other way. i highly recmd using a midwife! no experience with home births in my end

I used Gaia Midwives. they do home and hospital births. I used Susan but, my labor went on for DAYS and Dale wound up delivering me. I had a midwife with me EVERY SINGLE SECOND of the 54 hour labor.
They are fantastic.

DH's cousin had a home birth a couple of months ago but they're in Brooklyn. She used a midwife.

My SIL also used Dale and was very happy with her.

I didn't have a home birth but I used Stony Brook midwives and I LOVED them! If we have another I will definitely use them again.

You can look gaia up online. I think their offices are in malverne and also one further east.

Ditto! Loved Stony Brook Hospital too... and I hate hospitals.
I used Melanie Sumersille for DD1 and liked her a lot. The practice is at 877 Stewart Ave, Garden City. They're affiliated with Winthrop.
Gaia Midwives are supposed to be great too. Affiliated with NUMC in East Meadow, and it's the only place on LI where water birth is an option. No personal experience, but I know a bunch of people that used them and are thrilled. Dale does homebirths but fills up fast.
Jeanette Breen in Baldwin is the only other midwife on LI that I know does homebirths.

My sister had a home birth with Dale from Gaia and I was her birth partner. It was absolutely amazing. If I was having more kids, I would be having a home birth with Dale. Fm me for more info if you want!

I used Dale from Gaia for two home birhts. She is wonderful, I highly recommend her! The only other homebirth midwife I know of on LI is Jeanette Breen.
If you want to know any more info about home birth you can FM me. I also have the birth stories on here if you do a search.

She comes once @ 36 weeks, and visits you 3 times postpartum. Other than that I had to go to her office for my appointments.

What?! Then they are no longer an option IMO, because I was NOT happy with Julie at my home birth (she assisted Dale)
