Dairy Intolerance

If your LO had a dairy intolerance how did you figure it out? Also is it hereditary? DH had an issue with dairy as a baby and although DD is a pretty good baby she is showing a few signs that concern me. It could just be normal baby stuff but who knows. She started having very green mucousy explosive poops and is pooping 4-5x a day for the last 2 weeks. She is pooping through clothes like crazy. (She is 4.5 mo old). She spits up alot - always has...about 10-12x a day. She does have eczema too. But overall she is a good baby..usually nurses well and eats every 3 hours during the day. Although this week she is fussing and pulling off the breast alot. She is a lil peanut and is gaining slowly but like i said she seems ok overall and STTN. One random sidenote - She had evening colic for the first 9 weeks but that went away thank god.

OK I do see some of these symptoms are similar to foremilk/hind milk imbalance but I let her nurse 10-15 min on each side and I let down 4-5x per side...shouldn't this be sufficient?

I dunno may be this is normal and I am overthinking things just looking for some input...TIA!

Dairy Intolerance

Dd had a milk protein allergy which she outgrew at one year and ds (7 weks) has one too. Dd's symptoms were mucous filled poops, extreme throwing up such as projectile vomiting, slow weight gain and bloodbin her stool as found by my dr under a microscope. Ds is totally different. His only symptom was visible blood in his poop that went away once I cut out all obvious and hidden milk and soy. Bring a dirty diaper to your ped.

DH is and so are both my boys but not my daughter - so go figure. My kids were on formula. I had before age of 6 weeks - huge issues with constipation. Screaming and struggling to go. Always seemed in pain. One had reflux and the other did not. Both were relieved when I put them on a lactose free formula. (although reflux didn't change much - that relieved with age). One did Alimentum and the other Sensitive. My boys always pooped a lot once they were relieved - probably 3-6 times a day until a year but never painful. One always pooped gross (runny) but dr wasn't concerned.

Both had issues when I introduced yogurt. They'd become cranky, threw up, etc. Then when I did the whole milk conversation at a year - it went terrible. I did it slowly and by 2oz both would scream like a colic baby again! Both boys aren't extreme (they are odler now) - can eat things with lactose but in small quantiies. As toddlers - I would know when their babies/belly was effected - poop would be gross - french's mustard yellow - lol.

I knew with B around 3 weeks. She started grunting and arching her back while feeding. She didn't spit up much but when she did it was out of her nose but I think that was more of a reflux thing. She never had bad poops. H has had bad poops since birth and the Dr said as long as she s gaining she is fine. I ended up stitching to powder BJs brand formula and she is normal now.

Dairy Intolerance

I had a hunch about DD early on but by 5 or 6 wks, I was convinced. She's not allergic to dairy, but definitely has a dairy sensitivity. She had all of the symptoms - green mucusy poops, eczema, a terrible diaper rash that randomly appeared and although she wasn't colicky, she had about a week of colicky symptoms. I eliminated dairy and everything but the green mucusy poops cleared up but that has since been corrected (that was a hindmilk/foremilk imbalance.) although I miss cheese and chocolate, it's worth not eating dairy to see my DD happy. Plus it forces me to eat a lot healthier :)

Ok I called the ped...and they want me to keep an eye on her poops. They are not all mucousy - only some but said to call back if I see it again. She said green is normal and may be from all her excess saliva. And they said she'd be very fussy, uncomfortable and gassy if it were a milk allergy or intolerance which is not the case. Soo just gonna keep an eye on her. I would give up dairy if I knew that was def the cause but would want her tested first. I guess my only last concern is her eczema and cradle cap...ughhh.
