Nanny - live out, how did you find?

Looking for a nanny for part time, 3 days a week, live out. I live in NJ so I don't expect any referrals from here :)

Curious if you have a nanny, how you found her? Referrals? Agencies? Craig's List?

If you pay hourly or weekly, I would be curious as to how much...though if you feel comfortable and want to FM me that would be great...

Nanny - live out, how did you find?

We found ours through our landlord referred us. But we have friends who used Sittercity and care.com.

We pay her hourly, she told us how much she wanted ($6/h) and we give her cash each week. We cannot claim her on our taxes.

I started with Sittercity but IMHO it felt too much like online dating (no time to really vet or "date" candidates/strangers for weeks/months). I am also in Jersey so we used the Hoboken Moms yahoo group for referrals. Lots of moms were giving rave reviews for their nannies they were no longer using b/c of moving or going into day care. Ironically a lot of the candidates lived in Brooklyn. We found our nanny in just a few days. Had her come in for a few hours for a "trial" to see how she interacted with the baby and talked to her last 3-5 families.

we used care.com and ended up finding someone my dh knew from a long time ago.
