Did your DC's eczema show up in a different spot after treating the initial areas with steroids? (now DS's diaper area is inflamed)

The eczema on DS's face, arms, and legs cleared up within a day or two of starting steroid treatment.

But now the skin folds of his groin and his anus are all red and inflamed.

I don't think it's regular diaper rash. He doesn't usually get it in these skin folds.

I tried treating it with butt paste, I aways dry completely, etc.
Now it has little white pustules.

Or could it be a yeast infection from the steroid?
I give probiotic daily.

I will call doctor but they take a while to call back so wanted to get feedback if anyone has gone through something similar, etc.

Is it safe to use steroid in these areas?

Other thoughts/experiences?

I feel SO horribly for DS. I just wish I could do the suffering for him.



ETA: I didn't want to resort to steroid treatment in the first place. I tried a bunch of natural treatments but eventually it got worse, and he started getting very uncomfortable, where at first, it hadn't really seemed to bother him.

My 6 month old DS was just diagnosed with Eczema. He's got it everywhere. I just posted a few questions of my own so I'm sorry i don't really have any advice for you. BUT, his diaper area gets the little eczema type bumps on it and i just switched from Butt Paste to Triple paste and that seems to help. Maybe try that? Good luck

It sounds like the type of fungal diaper rash that my daughter has gotten twice that required a prescription topical cream to clear up. I've never heard of a steroid cream being the cause of one though. My son had bad eczema and was on steroid ointments for a while and never developed a diaper rash from it. Maybe just a coincidence?

Have you ruled out a dairy allergy? Both of my boys have a dairy allergy and the first sign for ds1 was horrible eczema on his face and stomach and for ds2 he was really red in the diaper area, almost bleeding...no creams or anything could fix the issue just switching formula.( I ebf but I was in the hospital for two weeks after I gave birth to him due to a botched routine surgery so I couldn't nurse or even give him the pumped milk so he was on formula and it made him red, dh switched to alimentum and it cleared up instantly)

We only had to use the steroid cream once on ds1 after that we made a lot of changes. I stopped eating dairy and I stopped giving him cheese and yogurt and what not. I switched to a free and clear detergent, we lathered him up with CeraVe cream after every bath whether or not he had an outbreak just to keep it at bay. We switched to California baby shampoo and soap, Babyganics eczema and seventh generation have also worked for us. Any Aveeno product caused my sons eczema to get worse...the worst being their sunscreen.
