PCOS and TTC

I was diagnosed in August with PCOS. Probably have had it all my life and didn't know. I was able to conceive my first child with no assitance fairly easily. My DH and I are starting to think about #2. I have been seeing an RE and will be obviously having help this time around....I was curious if anyone here was TTC with PCOS or had TTC. What was your experience???

many women on here have PCOS, its pretty common. it really depends what your issues are in regards to PCOS (anovulation, long cycles, hormonal issues, etc). i didnt ovulate consistently but was able to get pregnant twice with meds and timed intercourse but both ended in chemicals. eventually i conceived my 21m old DD with IVF.

do you know what your specific issues are?

Re: PCOS and TTC

I have PCOS - absent periods and do not ovulate on my own. I was able to conceive 3x with the help of my RE... All 3x via medicated IUI cycles.

My issues that led me to being diagnosed were irregular periods and cysts. I've ALWAYS had cysts and can clearly remember being in high school lying on my mom's bathroom floor from the pain of one rupturing. Anywhoooo....last year at this time I started to get my period every other month. I went to my OB/GYN who did a sono and said I had cysts which were causing my period to be irregular. By May my period stopped altogether so I took it upon myself to see an RE. They did a series of tests and concluded that my insulin levels in my eggs were too high, my lining too thick (hyperplasia) and I was not ovulating on my own. This was all news to me since I had gotten pregnant in 2009 with my son on my own on the 2nd month trying. Their plan was to give me provera to thin the lining....it ended up causing me to bleed so heavily that I had to be seen on an emergency visit. They gave me something to stop the bleeding and then put me on metformin (1500mg). They also did a series of Sonos to check the lining thickness which went down enough from the provera to not need a DNC. I was also put on birth control as well which did bring back normal periods. I just stopped taking the birth control because we want to start ttc for #2. I went last month also for a uterine biopsy and did a fasting Bloodwork. The biopsy came back clean and the insulin levels were good too. Glad the metformin is working because it makes my stomach hurt. At my last appt my dr said that once we were ready he wanted to do clomid cycles to help regulate my ovulation. I am really scared its going to be a hard and long process.

PCOS and TTC

I have severe PCOS. My first pregnancy happened very easily, but was lost due to mthfr. Second pregnancy, I ended up needing IVF. Third pregnancy was a surprise.

Dont be scared. As the pp said PCOS is fairly common. You seem to have had success with the metformin and BC, which is a great sign. There is no reason clomid won't help as well. Now that you're off BC with regular cycles I would start ASAP. Good luck!!!

I stopped BC last month but have not gotten my period as of yet. I put in a call to my RE today to see what they have to say since it hasn't come yet.

Re: PCOS and TTC

I have pcos and conceived without any help... I think t all depends on what your "issues" are and definitely how your body reacts to it

Spoke to the RE nurse. She said to wait another week to see if i get AF and if by then I don't then they want me to come in for another sono and some bloodwork....Uggh, here we go again! Getting up at 5 am to get to the dr by 6:30 am so I can then rush to get to work on time. That alone causes enough stress to affect fertility! LOL

Re: PCOS and TTC

I was dx with PCOS at 26, not TTC at that time. When we finally did decide to TTC many years later I was not getting my period so we went straight to the RE. We got pregnant our 1st cycle - metformin, clomid, ovidrel trigger, and back to back IUI's. After having my DS, my periods were pretty regular although after about 3 years my cycles started getting a bit longer. We conceived for the 2nd time on our own with no help, our 2nd month of TTC. Used OPK's.

Good luck!

PCOS and TTC

I have PCOS and as a result of it don't ovulate on my own. I saw a RE and did 9 cycles (all medicated)- 3 TI and then 6 IUIs. I was getting ready to have a consultation for IVF when I got pregnant on my 6th IUI.

Thanks for everyone sharing their personal stories. It's great to hear so many successes for you all. As I shared I stopped taking BC in Jan and was getting a bit concerned that AF wouldn't show up. I never thought id say this but I was so excited that I got it today. It's a good sign my body is regulating itself with the help of diet, exercise and metformin. Hallalujah!
