Anyone have a brick home?
We're buying a fully brick exterior home, and while we love how solid it is, we're not entirely sure we love the red brick. We're thinking of whitewashing it or painting it entirely. We don't have to do anything inside since it's brand new, so we can focus on the outside.
Anyone have brick and do something different, paint/siding/etc?

Love brick homes!
My childhood home lower lever was all brick and then upper level was siding.
Our 1st home was brick front only and we painted it white but liked it better as brick.

I love the look of brick - I would live with it for 1 year and then decide if you want to change it because there is no going back once you paint the brick

Re: Anyone have a brick home?
My house is more than half brick, but siding on the upper level. I personally love the brick look. It's very traditional and stately but also stylish in a timeless way, imo.
Most of my buyers love the look of brick, too. Brick adds value.
Painting the brick will be more maintenance for you as well. I agree with the suggestion to wait and see before you do anything.
If you aren't crazy about the curb appeal, maybe there are other less drastic steps you can take to make it more to your taste. For example, if you find the brick too monochromatic, maybe add pops of color with the landscaping, the front door, etc.

Definitely this. Once you paint the brick, there's really no going back - without a whole lot of work. Personally, I love the look of brick but am not at all a fan of painted brick.

That's exactly one of the reasons why we're on the fence with painting. I think we might start with adding shutters and updating the porch, then doing landscaping, and seeing how that looks before we do anything so permamnent.

I don't, but I love brick homes.
I agree with revamping it with little things on the outside and seeing how you like it. Maybe some flower boxes, too.
That's awesome that the inside is brand new - Enjoy!

My home is brick around the first level , then siding on back and top floor. I love brick! When We redo the outside I want to have the entire outside w a lighter color brick.
Don't paint it, it doesn't reply look that nice IMO

Re: Anyone have a brick home?
My parents and some of my friends have brick homes.
Definitely focus on the landscaping, maybe new shutters and even new windows/front door if you want to update the look.
If you have the money you can even consider doing new walk ways and a front stoop or something like that if the home lacks that.

Re: Anyone have a brick home?
I have a brick front home, red brick as well and it has such nice curb appeal.
You can certainly dress it up without painting the brick - you can add nice colored shutters, a new entry door, pavers for the stoop/walkway and landscaping.
We installed a new mahogany entry door with sidelites and what a difference!!!
