Spirit Airlines
DH and I are going to Myrtle Beach in May with DS and Spirit is the only airline that flies direct. I just totaled the trip and while the flight is cheap the fees are ridiculous!! $120 for bags and another $40 to book our seats?!?
Has anyone flown with spirit and not booked their seats ahead of time? Were you able to sit with your family?
Since this is the first time we are flying with DS (he will be 9 months) I would really like to sit with DH. But I really dont want to pay this ridiculous fee. Ugh they charge for everything!!

Ugh, yeah, they nickel and dime you for everything. It stinks. DH and I fly to MB every year, but it was just the two of us, so we never cared about our seats being assigned. They would seat us near each other, but not directly (so for instance, he would be in the aisle across from me in the middle seat).. we would then ask the person either next to me or next to him, if they would mind switching. But I guess if you def want to ensure you are going to be near each other, unfortunately you are going to have to pay. I also found it cheaper to check a bag then to carry on. Good luck!

Re: Spirit Airlines
I would say if you want to be guaranteed to sit with your DH you should pay the fee. Spirit is known for charging for everything. While you "might" get someone nice willing to switch, if someone paid for their seat they are more likely to not want to switch, depending on the seat you are offerring in exchange. Also I think they try to give middle seats to those who don't pay or rear of the plane which are the less diserable seats.
It is a gamble. This is why I would do a layover before flying with them or other lines like them. Most families I know who fly these lines pay the fee so they are guaranteed to be together. If it was just you or just you and your DH no baby I would say gamble. I assume the baby will be a lap child. If so you might not want to chance being in the middle with a stranger on either side.

I would buy the seats now. You will probably both end up in middle seats not together and their seats are very close together and its difficult with a lap child when you are sitting next to a stranger.
It's cheaper to check a bag than carry on and you don't have to pay extra for the stroller or carseat. Also, on top of your small personal items that fit under the seat, you are entitled to bring a diaper bag for free.

I would try to pack less luggage if you need to save somewhere. But definitely pay for assigned seats. They have no problem separating a child from their parents.

Thank you ladies! I booked the flight and our seats. Thank you for the tip about the diaper bag plus a personal item! The price of the flights when from $375 to $515 but it's still not bad for 2 of us. I also signed us up for the $9 fare club since it was $59.95 and saved us $60 it was worth it in case we go again this year (my dad has a condo there).
