If you haven't told work/colleagues yet (or from before you did...)
Is it weird or difficult for you? I'm eating so poorly that I know my closest friends here are probably noticing. Instead of salads for lunch I'm having grilled cheese I'm also turning down invites for Happy Hour citing tiredness and I wish I could explain so people would understand.
I don't want to tell people here for a bit - at the VERY least until we hear the heartbeat, but probably later, but it's so hard!

I know how you feel. We heard the HB today and I am still not ready to spill the beans. My coworkers want to go to a bar in 2 weeks for one of their birthdays and I had to pass.

I think a rule of thumb is if something were to god forbid happen (I know it's horrible to talk about, but it's reality) would you feel comfortable explaining that to them?
If so, tell whenever you want. If not, wait as long as you can.
In my opinion I think it also depends on what you do for a living. I was a teacher and when I was pregnant my students knew by the end of the first trimester. I was SO excited to spread the news. Well, I came back the next school year and had to tell them that I lost the baby. It was horrible. As a teacher (for any teachers reading this) I suggest waiting till the anatomy scan, because the WORST is having to tell a classroom full of kids that something happened. Again .. I hate to even say these things, but things happen. Usually it's fine but still... OF course anything can happen at any time, but the anatomy scan gives a ton of info. I think it's more a sign of things going well than the nt scan which really just checks for a few things.

I agree with this... I am a hockey coach and I wait to tell my team until I was well into the second trimester. I was so worried about the possibility of having to tell them bad news. I told some parents but kept it form the kids because I know it's a tough thing for little ones to understand. Luckily I did not have anything go wrong, but I didn't even want to risk it.....

Re: If you haven't told work/colleagues yet (or from before you did...)
it is very awkward to have to face everyone after a loss.....so personally I am waiting until our 1st anatomy scan at 16 weeks to tell work. I'm almost 14 weeks and I'm just starting to show so hopefully I can hold out another 2 weeks without too much suspicion!! I work with a lot of men, so I think that's also the reason I'm trying to hold off on spilling the beans as long as possible.....they can be very socially awkward when you have bad news to share! (at least the ones I work with!!)

I told work at 12 weeks and my kids at 20 weeks - I'm a child/adolescent therapist. I did tell my immediate supervisor at 6 weeks because I wasn't feeling well, and if god forbid something happened I wouldn't want to explain why I was out...

Re: If you haven't told work/colleagues yet (or from before you did...)
The first time I got PG I was planning on waiting till at least the first trimester (though b/c one coworker drove me crazy, I was thinking of waiting until the baby came out ) I was so glad we waited b/c at what should have been 11 weeks, we found we had lost the baby and it was hard enough to tell the handful of family and close friends - I don't think I could have done it at work.
With DS, I didn't say anything until 18 weeks. I was trying to wait as long as possibly, just in case, but it was starting to get really hard.
And the same with this pregnancy- except I had to tell them around 15 weeks. I was so sure everyone knew - it seemed so obvious, but I had everyone convinced I was one and done so, they didn't suspect that. Kind of wish I had waited longer...not so much that I'm worried - well, maybe I guess I still am and will be.
I have been very lucky each time though, that I have had no morning sickness or anything. With DS I was trying to eat much better (have't been so good this time) so I almost would have thought maybe they would have noticed that and that I was drinking a lot of water.

Re: If you haven't told work/colleagues yet (or from before you did...)
Maybe it's weird but I'm not finding it hard at all, I like them not knowing for some reason (maybe because I'm not that close with the people I work with-- also I have this weird fear that they're going to discriminate against me somehow, even though I know legally they can't). As far as I know, nobody has ever even suspected it. I don't think people pay that close attention to me, to tell the truth LOL! For a few weeks early on I was super tired & nauseous during the day but I think I hid it very well. Even now at 16 weeks I have no desire to tell anyone at work.... I'm going to keep this going for as long as possible.
ETA... This coworker of mine is constantly inviting me out for drinks... I go & he insists on buying me a beer or some other drink even when I tell him no thanks.... well, it sits there untouched... I don't care what he thinks. Tomorrow night I have a Mardi Gras party at a bar (rescheduled from last Fri)... should be interesting being that I'm not going to drink at all... if anyone notices & asks I will say I gave up alcohol for lent (not a total lie LOL)
