Can you recommend your mohel?

I am terrified of the whole procedure with circumcision. On top of it all, I am not jewish (dh is) and we are so on the fence about how to do it.
Whether to have the baby circ in the hospital and then have a ceremony of some kind later or do a traditional bris.
Of course his mom is all about doing a bris and keeps minimizing my feelings about the whole thing
("they just hand the baby back to you and you put him to sleep what's the big deal" uh, they're cutting my kid within earshot of me?)
Anyway, if we do go the bris route I'd love some recommendations.
Thanks!

Cantor Kushner performed the bris for both of my nephews and my cousin's 2 boys. He was wonderful!

Every Jewish friend of mine is recommending Paysach Krohn to me. I'll most likely go with him.

Also, I was advised not to look. I suggest you do the same, especially since you are not even comfortable in the first place.

We used Rabbi David Kedmi C.M.. He was great. We know others who have used him in the past. We weren't so "impressed" by Rabbi Krohn and some of the things we had heard about him. good luck with whatever you decide!

I didn't have a bris, but he was my ob when I had my son. He cut my son & he had stitches at under 24 hours old. He also needed surgery 3 years later.

Re: Can you recommend your mohel?

I do not know the name of the mohel we used for my 18 mo DS's bris, but i did want to warn you about one thing. Some religious mohels include a part in the ceremony where they put their mouth around the baby's penis to draw the blood away. I was not aware of this custom at all, but was disgusted when I found out that this was done at my DS's bris. I was there and watching and still missed it bc it happened so fast. I thought he was just bending over to inspect his work. My husband showed me the video and i was repulsed and felt so guilty for letting this happen since there is risk of disease transmission.

Here is a NYT article about this tradition.

I wish I knew about the tradition before hand so I could have asked. I never would have hired a mohel who included that. I think it's been in the news lately so people are more aware of it thankfully. Lesson learned in case I have more boys. I would never forgive myself if my son had gotten ill from it.

I'm a few days late to this thread, but I'm a new mommy, so I'm still catching up!

Our son's bris was last week and I wholeheartedly recommend Cantor Philip Sherman. Here's his website - http://emohel.com/

He was so quick and made it painless for me - trust me, I cried more than my son did! He's also great about making you feel comfortable, and great about follow up if you have any questions or concerns. Also, my son's circumcision healed very quickly, so I attribute this to the mohel.
