FTWM - career and more babies

DS just turned one not that long ago. We definitely want to have another and we would like them close in age, so i think we would try again some time this year. However, i have a possible opportunity at work to move to a new position - it would be a promotion, good exposure, future potential for growth, and a lot more work! I guess I am struggling with how would i take on a new role with the workload and learning curve and then possibly have a baby 1 to 2 years into a new role? i would feel guilty going out on maternity so soon into a new position. I guess my question is would you let your career impact the decision of having another or do you go ahead and figure things will work out??

Ideally I would have 3 kids. But since I work FT I think I can only handle one more. Other times I think I'm one and done. I try not to think about it too much right now. Right now, I know I'm not ready for another yet.

I would take the position and see how it goes. Even if your children are 3 or so years apart it's not such a huge difference.

I was surprised that I was able to continually be promoted without any hiccups after having children. I have been promoted to VP and Director since having children. I used to work more but right now, I work about 30 hours a week. I have a flexible schedule but I need to meet all deadlines and have limited flexibility when it comes to meetings. I try to delegate as much as I can.

this is my dilemna as well. I have a 6 month old ds who is in daycare full time. If ihad the means, id have another soon, but due to financial obligations- aka daycare costs, we are waiting a bit. If it was up to me, id have two more. My ds is the best thing i have ever done, and id love to do it again.!!

I think it depends on how flexible your company and industry is. My company has worked hard to implement flexible work arrangements to make it easier for people to honor both their work and family commitments. They have made it possible to have kids and have a career. Not every company/industry is as flexible.

I am waiting another few months before considering TTC#2 partially for career reasons. Actually primarily for career reasons, although there are others. Would I wait a couple more years? No. Maybe if I was younger I'd consider it, but I don't think I'd want a 4-5 year age difference in children (to the extent I have any control over that of course).

I completely understand you. I am an opera singer and had my DD#1 and waited 5 years to have DD#2. I could not have children close in age because if you are not out there singing they forget about you completely. SO I had to continue singing and wait a while to have another one. If this position is a step forward and you want it go for it.
