how do you prepare to move into a new home with young kids around?
We need to start doing a few projects, like small spacking, some painting, boxing up things that make our place look cluttered, etc, in order to put our home on the market. But.. what do you do with your kids? They make these projects take 1000x more time than necessary.

I deal with DD while DH does the home improvements. To be honest, even before DD was around I never did painitng and spackling. he is WAY too anal about stuff like that to even let me near a paint brush or a tool. I suckk at it so I can see why!

This! Exactly! DH is a contractor and very anal about his work. Fine with me bc I know nothing about it.

We hired for a few things and then did everything after she went to bed, so for about 6 weeks we were up till 2am. It sucked but we sold our house in 3 months. I think putting in the work was definitely part of it selling. GL!

We did most of our packing while DD was in bed or watching TV. We actually took a day off of work so we could move everything into storage while DD was at daycare.

I had someone come over to watch DS when we were getting ready to move out before our renovations - it worked so much better that way.

Im doing this now.... I try and pack stuff while shes busy playing.
If shes upstairs in her room I work on the bedrooms If shes downstairs, I work on the downstairs rooms
Takes a bit longer but Im also pregnant so slow is my only option at this point.
Small projects DH has been doing with the help of family members when hes home on the weekends of at night after work.

Reverse.
Its not that he isnt handy because he is. Very handy but I'm a Navy Mechanic's daughter. I've been building, rebuilding, working on and fixing things for so long its just part of who I am. I hate sitting there and watching someone else do something I could do better. I have no issue getting my hands dirty and actually enjoy the feeling of a job well done when I've done it with my own sweat. Which is why I paint, caulk, nail, sand, plumb and tinker.
So for us we just did all we could packing wise with AJ around. Then the fixing parts we dropped her off at my aunt's for the weekend. We slept on the floor and hammered (no pun intended) everything else out on that weekend. We scheduled it so that any services needed (our TV/phone/alarm/water/light hookups) were all taken are of before we got there as well as any contractors needed (flooring) were scheduled at vacant times. I'm a driven woman when it comes to repairs. I set a schedule. I set goals, expectations of work. What is and is not acceptable, how it will be done and in what order, when we break, when we lunch and when we must call it a night. What our must have list by day was and what was our want list as well. Got it all taken care of in two weekends. LOL
Wish I was that motivated about daily cleaning (blah).
