How do you know when baby needs more

How do you know when baby needs more oz of mlik? I've been giving my 3 month old DD 3 oz. and she takes it every two hours like clockwork. (Breast milk, if that matters). But yesterday she was hungry every 1 1/2 half (it was definitley a hunger cry) Im thinkin maybe it's time for 4 oz?? She weighs 13.5 pounds. But 4 oz. every 2 hours sounds like a lot. Maybe she will take the 4 oz. every 3 hours then?? PLEASE HELP!

**Side note, the pediatrician said last month that 3 oz. every 2 hours was too much for little babies. But, stretching it 3 hours does not work for her.

Once she takes 4oz she might go to 3 hours. Once my girls start consistantly finishing bottles, I add .25 oz-.5 oz to see if they will take it.

it sounds like she needs more. Every time dd would start crying for food every 2 hr I knew she was hungry and we would go up 1/2 oz and it would stretch her for 3-4 hrs again.

I would try and see if she takes another 1/2. If she does and does not spit it up then she needs more. I hate when peds say how much they should be drinking. My dd never went above 6 ozs int he first year of her life. So it all eves out. She just might need more but you might have a long stretch where you don't need to add more kwim?

Holy moly! My LO is 11 days old....and every 3-4 hrs she is drinking around 3oz! She hasn't been latching the past few days so I'm noticing she is drinking more breast milk from the bottle.

Are you also feeding her from the breast and also the bottle? Just curious to see if we are overfeeding my LO.

I would increase the ounces and with that your LO should increase the time between bottles. At that age my DD was drinking 5-6oz bottles (combination of formula and BM) but she could easily go 3-4 hrs between feedings.

I would definitely give more - even if just to try to get 3-4 hours between feedings! Every 2 hours is exhausting!!

my 3 month old dd weighs 12.7 lbs and she gets a 6oz bottle every 4 hours...sometimes she finishes it and sometimes not...my ped said it was fine because she also sleeps through the night from 11-830 every day so shes making up during the day for the bottle shes not getting at night

i would try giving a little more totry and stretch out the feedings

We upped by the 1/2 ounce with BM. My twins never took more then 4 oz every 3 hours

I'd up it to 4 oz., and then she'll probably go a longer stretch.

Thanks everyone, I'm giving DD 4oz. every 3 hours now and she seems happier with this. Fingers crossed! I was stressing bc of what the pediatrician said, but I agree with someone who said every baby is different. I'm going to listen to my mommy instincts. I don't understand how any doctor could say babies should get X amount of milk every 3 hours. It clearly wasn't enough for my DD. I can't wait to hear the doctor's reaction next week when I tell her DD is getting 4 oz. now lol.
