Blood work bites and HSG Tomorrow
Hi,
I had my prenatal and CD 3 (on CD4) blood work done on Monday. That didn't go so well since I apparently have small veins. The nurse was having trouble and poked lots of veins so the Dr. had to take my blood. After some time it finally worked! It was definitely stressful worrying about getting to work on time and waking up so early. Any idea when I'll get the results?
My HSG is tomorrow at Melville Surgery Center. I asked my RE if there were any instructions and he said No, just take a painkiller 30 min before. I asked if I could drive myself and he said YES. Did your RE give you any other instructions? Mine was so laid back like it was no big deal at all...which is good I guess. The surgery center called me and is making me go in an hour before hand and was like we tell patients to not eat after midnight. They asked if my Dr. gave any instructions and I said NO so they said okay I guess its okay to eat. Did you eat before hand? My HSG is at 2:30- definitely need to eat in the AM. If you drove yourself how was it? I don't want my DH to have to take the day. He wants to take off but I'm trying to be a tough girl...
What exactly happens during the HSG? (You won't scare me- tell me)
How did you feel after?
Did you get results right on the spot? My RE is doing the HSG.
Thanks for reading and for your input!

I'm still learning here, but is the HSG a hysterosalpingogram?

Re: Blood work bites and HSG Tomorrow
Hi
I'm sorry you had difficulty with the bloodwork. Is that the first time you've had trouble getting your blood drawn?
As far as the HSG (hysterosalpingogram): I was told to fast, and where i work we have the patients fast as well. Sometimes patients get nauseous. If you are going to eat bfast I would fast for 4 hr. Some RE don't have you fast. Some REs prescribe antibiotics prior, mine did not. I was instructed to take 600mg ibuprofen 1 hr before the test.
My RE performed HSG too. Lay on table, insert speculum (kinda painful a little), clean cervix, insert catheter, radiologist then comes in and RE injects dye (I had some cramping mild pain on left side. Nothing terrible though), Radiologist takes pics as dye is injected, they had me turn slightly on the table each way; which was kind of difficult with a speculum and tubes hanging out of me lol. The whole procedure took less than 10 mins and was not bad...and I am a wimp!!!
As far as DH...Since I am such a baby I had DH come with me. They let him in the room during the procedure, probably bc I was crying lol. He just had to wear a lead shield to protect the boys :)
I got the results right away. As the RE was looking at the pics he was showing them to me and explaining everything.
After I felt fine. No cramping for me. I did take some Motrin after as well, to head off any cramping. I have read some ladies had cramping after.
Good Luck!!!

Thanks for all the info. I ate something an hour ago but won't eat again. He didn't mention not eating so I didn't want to go in there starving. A few more hours and it will be over. Thanks.

Re: Blood work bites and HSG Tomorrow
I hope it went well too! I had the hsg which wasn't too terrible- just uncomfortable & crampy...But the dr that was going to do the test couldn't get the catheter in me so he called in another dr that was about 95 years old..He got it in 1,2,3 but when it came to taking it out, he yanked the thing out of me so hard I thought he took me insides with it..that was the worst part of it all
