It is a nice town, they have a lot of bars/restaurants and the Hard Rock Casino has lots of different types of restaurants and bars. DH and I went in the summer we didnt stay in Ft Lauderdale we were in Pompano Beach which is a much quieter town but we drove down to Ft Lauderdale (25-30 minute drive) probably 3 days of the 7 we were there to do different things.
