To go or not to go to soccer

DD came down with a cold on friday. She had a fever friday night (about 101) was fever free all day yesterday, but it came back again last night (about 101) and once again, fine this morning. She has soccer today and I am debating on taking her. My gut says no, but I also feel like she could use a little running around. She is bouncing all over this morning! WWYD??

I usually use the rule 24 hours fever free. Since she had a fever last night, I wouldn't. Just incase she is brewing something else!

Take her outside for some fresh air if she needs some running around. Schools use the 24 hr fever free rule, so I apply that to everything else.

I wouldn't bring her to soccer. I might bring her outside for a few minutes for some fresh air, but not for too long.

No, I would keep her home until she was fever free for a few days straight.

No she is contagious if she had 101 last night. My DD#1 had a sinus and ear infection recently and only had temps at night none during the day but was bouncing around. If she feels okay but needs to get some energy out. Put on some music and dance, Bundle her up and take her outsidefor 10-15 mins. Also soccer can be a lot of running so you don't want her to relapse.

Re: To go or not to go to soccer

I wouldn't go for two reasons. 1. Because every doctor and school says that kids are contagious 24 hours after a fever. If she had a fever last night she is obviously still contagious and I think it would be very irresponsible to expose the other families. and 2. if she had a fever last night she is obviously still run down and sick and soccer is the last place I would bring her. She needs to rest.

As an aside, does everyone's ped/school not tell them this? I'm seeing post after post about this. This is why there is SO much sickness going around. DS's teacher and I joke every day at pick up that the school seems more like the ped's waiting room than a school. I am just Chat Icon by this!!! Please don't send your kids to school or activities or parties if they are sick!!!

I was going to say it looks like most people are saying follw the 24 hour rule. But I haveto say I do know a lot who don't but you know parents who have 3-4 I hear kids #1 has the flu, kid #2 has strep and #3 and #4 are in school. Which is often how it spreads. The non sick ones are at school bc they curently not sick but might be contagious. Since you are contagious 24 hours before you show symptoms. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about that as those ywo might not get sick at all.

With a fever last night, I wouldn't. Not only for her well-being but also those around her. If she had a fever last night, she's probably still contagious. I go by the 24hr rule.

I do the 24 hour rule for viruses but the virus going around now is weird - DS was completely fever free for 24 hrs and got sent home the next day for the second time that week.

For something that requires antibiotics, i also make sure they have at least two doses as well.

Eta I think people are rushing their kids back in certain cases mot to miss work.
