Thirty- and Forty-somethings...

Is there anything that you won't do/wear because you think it's too young for you?

A friend of mine is under 30, has a great figure, and wore a miniskirt to an event and she looked awesome. But I never really go more than like an inch above my knee, I guess I feel like I can't pull it off regardless of age though. Chat Icon

As long as I feel comfortable in it, I wear it (which I am my worst critic). I do have some shorts & skirts that are short & I have to ask my DH if I look ridiculous "for my age" Chat Icon

Re: Thirty- and Forty-somethings...

I've started to make changes very recently. I was looking at swimsuits online & well, those little ruffles won't look good on me anymore. I can't do the short shorts that I did for a long time.

I think that for the most part my clothing has always been too young for me but my shoes have always been old lady shoes!

This!
I wear short skirts and dresses all the time because I think they look good on me. Not scandalous or anything but def above my knee.
The only thing i won't wear is super short shorts or midriff bearing tops at my age.

Re: Thirty- and Forty-somethings...

Since I lost 40 lbs, I have been able to wear stuff I wouldnt before but still some of the styles for teens are just not me.

Graphic T's with like Bieber on them and really crazy bright colors. But the thing I kind of like but would never do is when the girls do that vibrant color underneath or in their hair. I cant see doing that over 25 IMO.

Thirty- and Forty-somethings...

[46] cough, cough.

I wear what I feel comfortable in and what flatters me. I am not shopping at forever 21,but I am not shopping at Roamans either. If I could rock a short skirt I would, just not one so short that coochee is hanging out.
My biggest hurdle is finding comfortable shoes that don't look like grandma's. I have bad arthritis in my knees and foot so all my favorite heels are just a memory.

I don't wear short shorts anymore, bermuda shorts now. Mini skirts are out for me as well, along with low rise jeans. Other than that, it is fair game. I have always been a jeans and a tshirt kind of girl anyway though.

I just wear what fits and looks good on me. I have a hard enough time finding things that fit my body.

Try Born brand. I have always found them extremely comfortable and their style is getting better. I have a pair of Born boots with 3 inch heels and have no issues with them, but I absolutely would with another brand in that height.

Re: Thirty- and Forty-somethings...

I don't like shorts or mini skirts but that's been for awhile.

I have a large booty and I don't think they look good on me----it's not really an age thing.

I also feel like I'm getting too old for things like VS "Pink" collection.

On occasion, DH will buy me something from there, and I feel weird wearing stuff out in public that has flirty words and animals on it.

Although a lot of people will argue that you aren't supposed to be wearing that stuff in public anyways. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Thirty- and Forty-somethings...

I don’t really follow the “rules” like ‘no miniskirts after 30’. I wear what I want. I don’t wear ‘kiddie’ things but I will wear Abercrombie & American Eagle. I wear things that fit me well, nothing hanging out, I won’t wear bright/neon colors. I won’t wear things that I think call attention to me.

I think women who wear things that don’t fit is the problem, often times it’s not a case of wearing something too young, it’s a case of wearing something too small.

I did PINK on a whim and my hair dresser (who is my age! 45) said "Well, you can say it's for Breast Cancer month instead of a midlife crisis!" Chat Icon

Anyway, I'm kinda the same as others have stated, I wear what I am comfortable in and don't think "Is this too young a look?" or whatever. I do need to lose weight so I can't say what I'd be willing to wear if I was my old skinny self!

Re: Thirty- and Forty-somethings...

I think there is even a difference between 30s and 40s. I have never really worn short skirts or bare midriff shirts, etc.but I have a couple of friends who have dressed like that and looked great.

Now that we are over 40, some of those outfits just look like they are trying too hard. I don't think miniskirts look good on most 40 somethings or older. Even JLo looks silly in some of the things she wears and she's in amazing shape.

See, i love this! You've inspired me to think about doing something like this, but maybe not quite as much. I've had purple and burgandy in my blonde hair before (and had my entire head burgandy) so color is one thing i like to experiment with when i can.
However when it comes to clothes, for me my biggest problem is fit. I'm a size 16 so getting stylish clothes to fit can sometimes be a real challenge. i'll go look in a store like Torrid and find one or two pieces that will work, but in general i feel their clothes are little too young looking for me.
But a place like Lane Bryant can feel too frumpy sometimes.
So while i do have the age challenge (i'm 40) i also have the fit challenge.
I'm usually a jeans/boots/cute top kind of person so that doesn't really have an age limit.

i find i've dressed a little less revealing than i used to, but thats more due to size than age! Chat Icon

I agree. I probably dress young for my age but you know what- I love it that people think I'm much younger than I really am, so I I will continue to do it. Chat Icon

As long as it looks good on me, I'll wear it!!!!!! I love rocking bikinis and short shorts! I work hard at the gym and love showing it! The only thing I will not wear is shirts that show my midriff. I'm over that look. All my shirts always cover my belly.
