Folic Acid and Prenatal vitamin?
Was anyone else told to take Folic acid and a prenatal vitamin? My prenatal vitamin has 1mg of Folic acid and my OB suggested taking more.
For those of you who are taking prenatals and Folic acid how much folic acid are you taking total?

I have MTHFR so I take a special form of frolic acid (Metanx) along with my regular prenatal. Before I knew I had this in my first pregnancy, my ob told me to take extra frolic acid then too.

I take 3 mg of methylfolate every day (1mg, 3x per day), it's folic acid in it's broken down form, easier to absorb (like PennyCat I have 2 bad copies of the MTHFR gene, but I can't take Metanx b/c I had a reaction to it). I take a total of 4mg of folate every day (my prenatal also contains folate instead of folic acid, folic acid is actually synthetic, so imo it's better to take the natural form of it, but obviously with someone who is unable to process folic acid in a synthetic form it's way more important.....I think most people don't have issues with taking the synthetic form. It doesn't hurt to take extra folate/folic acid, so I would do it! Thorne Research makes the folate that I take every day (it's called 5-MTHF).

I take Folic Acid in addition to my prenatal, but I think that's only because I'm having twins.
