4 1/2 yr old stilling having accidents-please help!!

My son is going to be five in March. He continues to have poop accidents several times a week, sometimes daily. When he went for his four year old physical we spoke with the pediatrician and told him about one experience where he was constipated for a few days. However to be honest, he had accidents before that. The doctor told us to try mirilax. He has been on Mirilax since about July and it helps in terms of him having to go but he continues to have accidents. We started training him at his request the week before his 3rd birthday. Within a week he was trained for pee and was dry at night but pooping on the potty has always been an issue.

We have tried everything we can think of-reward charts, earning special treats, taking things away, having him clean his own underwear-nothing works long term. He might have a few good days but inevitable he goes back to pooping in his pants.

When we ask him why, he has said I wanted to or I chose to poop in my pants. He also says that he doesn't want to stop what he is doing. I am so stressed that this is going to cause problems in Kindergarten. I was a Kindergarten teacher and there was a child in Kindergarten that consistently had accidents and there was talk from administration of him not being able to stay in school!

Does anyone have any suggestions? I could really use some help, I hate the thought of my son dealing with this problem, it has been going on two years of accidents and I am sick of the dirty underwear!

I am the type to call the doctor for everything. So I'd call and ask for suggestions.

Hopefully btdt moms here can offer some more advice.

I know I had pee accidents as a kindergarten mostly because too shy to ask to go to the bathroom.

Thanks, I did ask and he suggested teh miralax, he didn't have much to offer beyond that. Maybe I should call him again.

My DD goes to a pediatric gastro who I really like. At one point I was really getting concerned that DD was never going to potty train for poop. He said that I should give it more time but said that a last resort would be to go to a behavioral psychologist.

My nephew had this problem, and didn't outgrow it until he was 8 The more my sister made it an issue (getting frustrated, time-outs, taking things away, etc), the worse it got. As soon as she relaxed a bit about it and stopped harping on him, he stopped having accidents. I helped her look for solutions online, but couldn't find anything.

I watched a boy who was 5 going into kindergarten and was doing the exact same thing. Their pediatrician told them that when he would choose to go in his pants to give him him wipes and let him clean himself up. After a few times of being told he needed to clean up after himself he stopped.

They were also told not to make a big deal out of it. They would simply take him to the bathroom and give him wipes or toilet paper and shut the door.

When he was in my care he did it once. I will tell you he did smell a little bit after he cleaned himself but his mom told me not to say anything or help him. When the other kids started to tell him he smelled he asked for more wipes and new underwear and cleaned himself better.
