It's just me and a friend...no kids...no checked bags. Is it as much of a hellhole in the air as people say?
It's just from here to Chicago.
Would I be better off paying an extra $50 to fly on Delta?

And they charge you to select a seat too. At least $10 each way.
Fly Delta, if your flight gets cancelled, they will be able to rebook you more easily. I only fly Spirit to Myrtle Beach and thru cancelled my flight last year on a Tuesday Nd told me they couldn't do anything for me until Saturday. They don't have the rights to book you on a partner airline and their customer service reminds me of the guy in the Capital One commercial.

not to hi-jack ...but can anyone tell me how Spirit is overall?
I've only flown Jet Blue and Aer Lingus........I may have to fly Spirit soon and I keep hearing horror stories and jokes that it's held together by duck tape and it's called Spirit so someone can look after you, because you will need it.
Make me feel better. What is it really like?
Are there TVs like Jet Blue?

DH and I flew Spirit for the first time last year, to Chicago, and NEVER again! I never have a problem flying, but on the flight there, I felt so claustrophobic like I HAD to get off the plane (and its not a long flight), but the seats are ridiculously small and close together. Plus with all the extra fees, its really no bargain. On the way home, we had an option to pay an extra $50 each for the roomier seats/legroom and I jumped on it and it was much better, but never again.

I have not flown Spirit in several years but from what I hear, not much has changed. It was always hit or miss. Either everything was perfectly fine or it was a total nightmare. Cancelled flights, crazy delays and none of them weather related. We had enough and never went back.

Re: Spirit Airlines
We flew Spirit last year because they're the only ones who fly direct to Myrtle Beach. We were definitely nervous, but we were lucky. We had no issues what-so-ever.

It's not held together by duct tape but, it is very no frills. You have to pay for everything - to choose your seat, to put a carry on in the overhead, etc. And there isnt much legroom. Oh - no tvs and you have to pay for drinks, snacks, etc. And the gate area at lga is small and cramped.
Like pp said - its either all or nothing, thugs are either smooth and perfect or completely horrible. We fly thek to Myrtle Beach and the majority of my experiences have been good but, the bad ones have been rrally bad (see my post above).

Re: Spirit Airlines
i fly on spirit because i have no other option that is nonstop from NY to myrtle beach... if delta were flying there i'd take delta in a heartbeat! as the PP mentioned, they nickel and dime you for everything. I am also always delayed getting out of LGA.. not sure if its because of the airport though.
