Amnio in Third Ti ?
Hello Ladies!
I have been MIA the past couple of weeks because I've been home and with so much to do for the impending arrival of the baby, LIF took a back seat
I went to my OBGYN on Tues and because of my history of high blood pressure and the baby being under the 10 percentile, they would like to induce. The hospital will only allow "elective" procedures to be done after the 39th week. I am 38w3d and though the Dr doesn't really see this as elective, the only way to get around it is to have an amnio done to make sure lungs are mature. the Amnio is scheduled for this Fri. If the results come back good, I will be induced this Saturday.
I know an amnio now doesn't carry the same risks as an amnio done in the first or second trimester...but i'm still a little scared that its going to be painful. Can anyone tell me what I can expect???

Just had one yesterday :) It is NOTHING!!! REALLY, I promise...this amnio was my second one I have had... #1 was with my DS which I was a wreck bc I was so nervous and scared and it turned out to be not a big deal at all...
#2 yesterday I knew what to expect and the best advice I can give you is this... turn on your side dont watch the initial prick of the needle hurts less than giving blood or getting an IV after you get stuck take 3 deep, very deep breaths and it will be over.
You will have minor cramping while they are getting the fluid but not worse then period cramps...
you may have a few contractions or a lot of movement afterward but nothing too crazy...
YOU WILL BE FINE....IT IS NOT 1/4 AS BAD AS IT SEEMS...
hugs!!!!! I went to Winthrop.

Amnio in Third Ti ?
I find this completely unnecessary. Is your dr. for real? They can definitely work around an amnio, if you went into labor on your own a this point they wouldnt be checking the lungs or trying to stop labor.
In 4 days you will be 39 weeks, can't they do NST until you hit that?

Seems like they're doing all this just to take you 1 day earlier than the hospital will otherwise allow them to?

I had an amino- not in the third tri though. I know you said you are worried about it being painful. I was so nervous abuot that as well but I can tell you- it was nothing more than a prick. I swear a blood test hurt more. I flinched and it was done. I couldn't believe how painless it really was. Good luck!

Not sure what your medical history is but with high blood pressure I wouldnt chance it either...
animo is nothing to get worried about and ...
LEGALLY since you arent in labor cesctions prior to 39 weeks are are considered "elective" with that being said ONE MUST do an amnio for FLM bc they will not take a baby without knowing if the lungs are mature...if they are not "fully matured" LS exceeding 2.0 they will not take you prior to 39 weeks. This is what I was told at least by the head of MFM at Winthrop.

I was told the exact same thing ...only they are scheduling me for an induction. But thanks for reassuring me about how its not as painful as I thought it would be!

Re: Amnio in Third Ti ?
I had an amnio at 36 weeks with DS to see if his lungs were mature enough to have a c/section because of complications. It really didn't hurt at all. They said there was a risk of me going into labor but at that point it would have been ok. We got the results within a couple of days and I had my c/s at 37 weeks. He wound up in the NICU for breathing issues anyway but was able to go home when I went home.

I'm confused why you would do an amnio on Friday and induce on Saturday...OR you could just wait 2 more days and then you'd be 39w on Monday and could be induced without the amnio. I feel like waiting 2 days wouldn't be a bad thing, right?
Also, I'm having my c-section on Monday so we'll be in the hospital together!!!!

I don't have the option of waiting until monday, they really want to induce on monday to avoid complications and don't want me to go to 39 weeks. Ahhhh!!!! Maybe we'll getto meet with our babies on monday!!!!!!! Good luck!!!!!!

Re: Amnio in Third Ti ?
I had high blood pressure throughout my entire pregnancy. I also had GD. At 37 weeks, my blood pressure was high, even on meds and my OB said that was enough, he was delivering the baby that night. I had a c/s that night to deliver him and never had to have an amnio. There were no issue my OB said because I was considered full term. I had been having 2x a week NST and BPP up until that point. I delivered at Winthrop.

Amnio in Third Ti ?
I had an amnio at 17 weeks. It was unformfortable not really painful.
I think the worst part of it was the unknown and freaking out about it before hand. THe actual proceedure took no time at all and I took it easy the rest of the day. I would def do the amnio if the Dr has concerns
