Need advice please
Hi, I need advice regarding next steps. I have completed 4 IUI's with bfn's. 3 were natural cycle with 1 cycle having a trigger shot. The most recent 4th cycle was clomid days 3-8 and trigger shot. Every time I have to take progesterone. I had 3 follies, 16, 18 and 22. I had an excellent HSG. I am so dissapointed and overwhelmed with this process. I recall Dr. Stelling saying that most IUI pregnancies happen 1-4. I don't know whether to hang in there and keep trying IUI with more clomid cycles.....or do an IVF cycle at the tune of $10,000 cash. Thoughts and advice are most appreciated. I have a follow up appt with Dr.Lydic (who found a polyp on my cervix as he did the last IUI, which needs removal - ugh.)

Re: Need advice please
I would not jump into IVF just yet. Traditionally they say to try a protocol 3 times before moving to the next one. I would first do IUIs with injectables to increase the amount of eggs you produce making more targets. IVF is a big step.... I know it feels like a long road already, but just based on those cycles I (personally) would not move on to IVF yet. Good luck!!

I was so upset when I heard the same thing- that most IUIs work after 3. Well it took me 6!!! Don't give up hope yet!!

I wouldn't jump to IVF either. I know I plan on doing as many IUIs if I need to before jumping to IVF. I just don't know how we would pay for that. As long as it is safe and my insurance covers it, IUI is where I'm staying. Good luck and don't give up hope!!!!!!

This exactly. Time to move onto injectables.

Thanks for all the replies. I am self pay for iui also. I thought most pregnancies happened between 1 and 4....missfab, u said most happen after 3. If that's true then I should probably just keep going, right? My thoughts are in circles worrying what if there is something like endometreosis and future tries are just a waste. It's all a gamble really isn't it. Exhausted. I was going to take a break but now as I wait for af in sadness and read these postings maybe I should just buck up and try again in February.

I did clomid 50mg 2xaday once (this 4th try) with follies 22, 18, and 16. Are injectables better and why? Thx so much everyone for your information.

I have done both clomid and injectable iui's. I feel injectables produce more follicles so hopefully you have a better chance. I was lucky enough to conceive ds on my first iui but this time it is taking longer and I have done three clomid and 6 or 7 injectable cycles, all negative. I am taking a few months off and then heading into IVF. I totally understand the frustration!!! Good luck with your decision!!!
Ps..I also thought it was supposed to work one in four but obviously not!!!! Very annoying!!!

Re: Need advice please
For 80% of people who IUIs work for, they work in the first 3.Therefore, if an IUI is what's going to work for you the likelihood is it will work in the first three tries, but otherwise it doesn't mean it can't work, it's just less likely. I imagine this is referring to the most aggressive approach which would be IUI with injectables.
