No heat due to oil gelling - Any suggestions
This happens every year and every year we are told to do something to prevent it and this year our service guy had no answers on what else we can do. We have no heat going on 3 days now. Service guy came over yesterday, got it going but went out 15 minutes later. One of our cold water pipes has already frozen. It is 50 degrees in our house and I an now concern about pipes bursting. We have an above ground tank - does anyone have any suggestions.
Tank is enclosed by a solid gate, filter is inside and pipes are insulated.

Did he check the pilot? It could be the thermocoupling needs to be replaced. I had this exact issue a few years ago.

Pilot is fine. Will come on once the oil has melted.

My husband (not a heating guy) said we've had our oil injectors cleaned out. Maybe yours are clogged?
Our last issue was that there was no water pressure (the pressure gauge was on zero). My husband switched it to manual, got the pressure up to what it should have been & switched it back to Auto & we've been fine ever since.
You shouldn't have to worry about your pipes unless your house reaches freezing level but maybe you should run the water?

Thanks for the link. I did find this link and got some heating tape. Hopefully this will work. I heard there is also heating blankets for the bottom of the tank, will order this as well.

Pipes aren't freezing, the oil is gelling and wont go through the pipes.
