Gas Oven/Stove not working right

It's bad when you smell gas right?

My oven and stove have not been working right for a while but I got a very strong gas smell last night and decided to abandon cooking. Not worth the risk.

Who should I call?

Do you have natural gas, or use a gas company? Call whoever supplies the gas. National grid or private co.

Re: Gas Oven/Stove not working right

propane tank.

The stove han't been heating right for a few months and sometimes I need to light a lighter to start the burners.

I know I should have looked into this before, but I think I may need a new stove.

Propane company is coming to replace the tank. I think it's running out. But I do need a stove/oven repair person.

Re: Gas Oven/Stove not working right

maybe a cracked hose for the connection ?
That's the only thing I can think of why you'd smell gas unless the pilot light is out (if you have one of those)

We had a sort of similar issue....(use propane tanks too)--- the oven made loud popping sounds, on and off and there was a definite smell of gas. For us, it turned out to be that we needed new igniters in the oven....the igniters were not heating up fast enough or strong enough, so there was gas escaping instead of being burned up....we had it fixed last week and its been like a different oven!-- things now cook evenly, it gets to tempurature etc.....you may not need a whole new oven. GL!

Kind of a long story-- we originally called Universe (originally posted Universal-- its Universe)- nice people, came over, were going to fix it......but we also had another issue with the stove that we wanted them to look at when they arrived - we have a viking stove/oven so they said since we had another issue as well, we should call the viking repair guys and have them do it all, which we did (universal did not charge us to come out since they called viking, which I thought was good). Although Universe didnt end up doing the work, they had been recommended to us and I think they seemed pretty good/honest, so unless you have a viking, I would try Universe (who could have fixed the igniter issue had we not needed them to do other work)
