Baby Shower and Booze...

Hi All...

I am having a hard time with something and was hoping you girls can share your opinions or what you plan do have for your shower...

I just wanted to do a Champagne Punch and keep in simple....My MIL is insisting on Wine at the tables....Not many of the guest drink and i find it to be waste...(Sidebar: she isn't paying for the shower, but said she will pay the "wine extra"

I don't want my shower to be a drinkfest...Its on a early Sunday Afternoon and I just want things simple...

1. Is the punch enough?
2. Do you feel Wine and the Punch are overdoing it, for a early afternon baby shower?
3. Have you been to baby shower that had alcohol (more than just punch)?

Please share your opinions on this...TIA

i would stick with punch...no need to spend the extra money for the wine imo.

i had a brunch shower (12:30 - 3:30pm on a sunday) and people mostly got bloody marys & mimosas...i saw literally 1 person with a glass of wine

edit just to add...i would be annoyed with MIL if she wasnt paying for the shower but offered to pay for booze.

We had a full open bar at my baby shower - I figured I would enjoy a baby shower a lot more as a guest if I could drink and didn't want to stop everyone else from drinking just because I couldn't! I would have been fine with just punch or wine, but the place we had it at threw it in.

That being said, no one got even remotely close to drunk. Everyone had only one or two drinks. That is probably why the place threw it in, since they know a baby shower will never be a boozefest.

If your MIL wants wine and wants to pay for it, I see no reason not to let her.

I think punch is fine... but I will say that we had bottle of wine on the tables at my shower, which was 12 noon on a saturday. Most people were drinking it. We did not have punch.

I've been to a shower where there's been an open bar - one with just wine on the table - one with just punch. All were quite nice and fine with me.

If she's willing to foot the wine bill - I'd say let her do it.

Baby Shower and Booze...

We did wine also for mine. I am a wine drinker and so are a few of my friends. We paid for the wine ourselves. It wasn't much money but I did t have many people.

It won't be a booze fest.

If she's paying for it, I don't see why you wouldn't do it. I think most people would not be drinking it. But, baby showers are boring and it would be nice to have a glass of wine or two while there!

Re: Baby Shower and Booze...

Mine is also a Sunday afternoon..

I am definitely doing the bellini and mimosa package the place offers but am on the fence about wine also as it is considerably more per person but I have a lot of wine drinkers in the crowd...
To answer your questions I think if you did just punch or punch and wine it would be fine and additionally if someone else is paying for the wine that only would make me lean more toward that way....

Just stick with the punch... we did mimosas and bloody mary's at my shower and I honestly don't remember seeing that many people drinking.

Baby Shower and Booze...

I think the punch is fine. I went to a shower this past saturday in the afternoon and they had mimosas and bellinis and it was just fine for those who were choosing to drink.

I think the punch is fine but the wine is nice. I know a lot of my friends are wine drinkers and I know i would like to have a glass of wine at a shower.

Baby Shower and Booze...

It sounds like you don't want it so just do the punch, it is YOUR shower and you know your guests best. My friends love to drink wine so I would have it but everyone is different and your SIL should butt out!

Champagne Punch is plenty for a baby shower.

I just hosted my sister's baby shower this past June and I served a really yummy champagne punch that everyone loved and then just sodas. It was perfect. Honestly, I see no need for a lot of alcohol at an afternoon baby shower. Even at my own shower all that was served was soda, juices, and a champagne punch. That's pretty typical. I think the wine is unnecessary.

At mine we did mimosas on the tables and had an open bar option. Maybe one or two people had a glass of wine. That might actually be cheaper than putting wine on the tables, although you'd have to talk to your actual caterer. I ultimately think a champagne punch is perfectly sufficient. I don't think you have to worry about people getting sloppy drunk at a Sunday afternoon baby shower but you know your crowd best.

Re: Baby Shower and Booze...

If she is offering to pay for it, I would take her up on it.

Just punch is fine too, as a guest that would be fine for me.

I wouldn't worry about guests overdoing it!

IMHO if she is willing to pay for it why fight over it. Unless you are worried about your guests getting out of control I would save myself the aggravation and let her get what she is paying for
