Those who have older DC in daycare and younger kids with a nanny...
If you had your first DC in daycare and then any subsequent kids at home with a nanny or a sitter, what are the pros and cons? Did you like one vs the other?
My oldest DS (3) is in daycare, has been since he is 3 months old. Now we are expecting twins and simply can't afford 3 kids in daycare...at least until the oldest is in public kindergarten we won't be able to send the kids to daycare. We LOVE my DS' daycare but it would just be like another mortgage payment to send the babies there. I am planning on working from home 2 days a week and having a nanny watch them the other 3. But I'm nervous..I love the social and learning aspect of daycare...so we may put them in once they are 1 or 2 years old. One good thing I can think of having a nanny is not having to bundle them up and take them out on days like today and also the person I am planning on hiring will do their laundry for me during the day...
Any pros / cons feedback?

The fact that they have each other, plus your DS when he is home, is a lot...you can do playdates etc when you can but otherwise I don't see the need for them to go to daycare BEFORE 1 or 2. KWIM? DD didn't go to daycare until 15 months and it wasn't a huge transition...there was a little bit but that time at home with them was invaluable, KWIM?

Will the nanny be there on the days you work from home too? Just asking because I find it impossible to get work done when my kids are home and nobody else is there to watch them (and usually only try to do it on days off).

Re: Those who have older DC in daycare and younger kids with a nanny...
We're doing this.
Logan LOVES daycare and is learning so much! He went in when he was 9 months old.
Benefits of having babies home - they are comfortable! They sleep until 9:30 and I don't have to wake them up to get them out of the house. They have more individualized care... the nanny only cares for them so she really gets to know them, their wants/needs, etc. Now that they are eating table foods, if I forget to leave something, she can scramble some eggs... make oatmeal, grilled cheese, quesadillas, whatever. They get to nap in their cribs! I don't have to worry about packing breakfast/lunch for them. She does their laundry, changes their crib sheets, washes their play mat. Their schedule is totally individualized. No set nap time... but based on their own schedule. Logan gets his alone time and I get to pick up JUST him and we chat the whole way home... 1x/week we go on a little "date" before I get home to the babies.
I'm really happy with the situation so far. Babies are 11 months old. They will be going to day care probably January of next year since we have an au pair here until December.
We could not afford 3 in daycare at this point!
I do worry about them not being in day care... (just being honest!) I wanted them to start this September but because of unforeseen issues, they won't be able to start until December or January. I do worry about their social development and educational development... but we are doing the best we can!

Agreed!
If you go the nanny route, you may really need to get her all 5 days if you really need to tackle work during the day. I tried working from home when DS was newborn and DD was in nursery school for a few hours and it was pretty much impossible.

I totally cannot afford her 5 days a week...and I can't afford full time daycare either. I will be home alone with them when working...as babies it may be easier than when they are toddlers and need playtime attention..which is when they will likely go to daycare...my job is mainly online and have very few conference calls etc so I will be ok..I think!
I'll see how it goes..if it's not working then DH and I may have to re-evaluate.
