How much cereal in a bottle?

He drinks 7oz in a bottle - how much cereal should I put in it? Do I need a larger nipple for the thicker consistancy? We are still using size 1 currently.

I want to try this to see if he can sleep longer at night so do I only add the cereal to his night bottle or all 4 bottles during the day?

Size 1's have the smallest nipple. My question is though, how old is he and how many ounces is her getting per day? He may not actually be hungry at night, but just waking out of habit. Have you tried cutting down the night feeding? The hint that my DC was ready to sttn was when he went to sleep after 1oz. I realized he wasnt waking out of hunger.

Back to your original question, as long as your ped is ok with the cereal (I dont know your LO's age), you would need a bigger nipple because its going to be awfully hard to suck a thick liquid through a size one. They have special nipples for it to.

He's 7.5 months & I am tired. He is waking between 4:30-5:30 every morning. I know he is hungry because he inhales his bottle. He drinks about 30oz a day & has very little food- he's ont interested. Is a size 2 nipple large enough for it to pass?

Hmm, I'm pretty sure cereal in the bottle is only recommended for reflux and not to improve nighttime sleeping. I think that's just an old wives tale and studies have shown that cereal in the bottle has no impact on nighttime sleep.

Re: How much cereal in a bottle?

My DD is 6 months old. She too kept waking up around 3am to eat, and so i would give her a bottle and she would inhale the whole bottle and fall back to sleep. My ped. said to cut it out because she's eating out of habit. So i cut it out, the first 2 nights, she whined for about 10-15 min. and went back to sleep, the 3rd night, nothing, not a peep. Im so glad i did this because i was so exhausted. Now i can sleep through the night too! Try it! It works! The key is to be consistent, don't give in. This is my 2nd child, and it worked for both! GL!

I've actually tried cutting it when he was 6 months old but it wasn't working. I really believe he is hungry & not just waking from habit. He hates purees, doesn't each much table food so that's why I think he is hungry. I guess I could try again.

I would try CIO instead. Chances are they are waking and eating out of habit. My DS will drink a bottle if we gave it to him but def doesn't need it. If you continue to feed they will always expect.

Exactly what Alli said! My DS never liked puree food either. We did CIO with him at 10 months. We thought for sure he was hungry. But the older they get, the harder it is...it took him a little over a week to adjust. Ever since, he's been sttn and he's almost 2! Hang in there, it will get better!Chat Icon

I don't understand why people are so against the cereal in the bottle. Its not harming him so go ahead and put the cereal in the bottle. We tried it and it didn't work for us either. CIO worked.

Try putting two tablespoons in there with a sz 2 nipple. Per the 7 oz.

Cereal in the bottle is a huge choking hazard. If they are old enough to eat cereal then spoon feed. It will greatly reduce choking.

It is dangerous to put cereal in bottles unless your pedi ok's it. It can cause them to choke. My son was getting it in his bottle from 4 weeks old until 4 months for his reflux.. It DID NOT help him sleep any better... He still woke up every 2-3 hours to eat...

Keep trying to give him baby food during the day... That is the only thing that will fill him up..

Yes, this is what I was going to say. Most peds I have heard of are against it for this reason.

I do 1 TBSP per 4 oz per my Ped. I also do it in every bottle. I was using size one and had to make the hole a little bit bigger. We use Avent bottles and they sell another nipple for thicker liquids but it was coming out way to fast.

Thanks! I tried this and he did sleep 1.5 hours longer. No idea if it had anything to do with cereal or if it was just a coincidence.
I only did it with his last bottle before bed.
Anyway, I will try it again for this week & if ends up not working, I'll go the cio route next week & pray that he doesn't wake up my 3 year old Chat Icon
