Will a pacifier interfere with BF?
DS is 3 weeks, i EBF no bottles. Lately DS has been making lots of fussy noises especially at night in his sleep. It doesn't bother me but DH thinks he needs a pacifier to help soothe him. I'm reluctant to give it.
Will it affect our BF at all?

Will a pacifier interfere with BF?
I was always told that it could but when DS was born, the nurses gave him a pacifier in the hospital. We never had any issues with nursing and he had a paci from 2 days old. I think if he's not having any latching issues then it may be OK to try it.

Re: Will a pacifier interfere with BF?
It didn't bother BF for me. What it did do is allow for me not to be the pacifier. The baby wouldn't' settle for a pacifier if they were hungry.

Same here.... I think if u have gone 3 weeks without one u should be good. Maybe wait one more week or so if u r really nervous about it bc u r supposed to wait to give a bottle between 4-6 weeks. Just like PP, my baby took/takes a paci & latched/latches fine. GL
Ps- we gave DD Avent soothies (that's what they started her with in hosp) until about 3 months & then switched bc she was able to keep other ones in her mouth better

Re: Will a pacifier interfere with BF?
I never had any issues with it. DS pretty much had one from day one - and I EBF'd for 7 months (till work got in the way).

Same for me...my girls would stick the pacifier out of their mouths when what they really wanted was milk. So it never really effected BF for me

It didn't for us. I was nervous at first, but never had a problem. I EBF and she started with the paci pretty early on. It helped to soothe her.

Re: Will a pacifier interfere with BF?
I would t jump at giving a paci if your DS is just making noises. Babies make all sorts of noises. My DS sounds like he is having conversations in his sleep.
But if you do want to try the paci I say go for it. I know a bunch of people that did while BF and had zero issues.

No, my daughter is a pacifier maniac and I breast fed her until she was two.
I just don't know how I am going to get the dodge off of her!

ITA with this at 3weeks my dd started making some noise. She was having gas.
As for the paci. I ebf and tried giving her a paci to shot everyone up about letting her try. She had and still has no interest in it.
I know people that bf and had no problem with the paci. good luck

Re: Will a pacifier interfere with BF?
It didnt for us and I BF till she was 11 months. But then again she wasnt really addicted to the paci either. She gave it up on her own around 7 months I think. All kids are different, if you start to see that it is having an effect on BFing then adjust how often you give her the paci.

Will a pacifier interfere with BF?
I didn't have any issues with either of my boys. I waited with my first until he was a few weeks old, but after being up ALL NIGHT as a human pacifier, my second got one when we were still in the hospital. lol

Both of my boys got pacifiers within the first week. Sucking really soothed both of them. It didn't affect BFing at all.

Re: Will a pacifier interfere with BF?
My first got a pacifier in the hospital while undergoing the lights for jaundice. I EBF'd him for just under 13 months (used pacified until 6.5 months)
My twins also got pacifiers in the NICU (they were there for weeks) and they are now 11 months and EBF (used pacifier until 9 months).

I didnt give LO a pacifier until BF was established and he was fine with both. I think you're in the clear now!

We never had any issues.
Same here. DS was given a paci in the NICU and we used it for a few weeks at home during that difficult newborn period but now he won't take it.
But it sounds like your DS is making normal newborn noises at night...if he is in your bedroom, you'll just have to get used to it. He might just spit out the paci and you'll be getting up to put it back in... Noisy sleeping was the main reason we moved DS into his crib at 8 weeks

Re: Will a pacifier interfere with BF?
I think it really depends on the baby. I tried to get my ds to take a pacifier but he was never in to it. I actually tried several brands before I just gave up. He wanted nothing to do with any of them!

Re: Will a pacifier interfere with BF?
It didn't hurt us at all. DD wasn't really interested in pacifiers, though, until she was about 2 months old and by then bf'ing was well established.
