wedding question
My BFF is getting married in August. DS will be 2. He is the ring bearer, I am the maid of honor. DS # 2 will be 4 months, he will be with my in laws overnight. My friend has said that DS is more than welcome to stay for the reception- he is like her nephew and she just adores him. But, I feel like as her maid of honor, my job that day is to make her feel special and have it be all about her. I don't want to be running after my 2 yr. old all day. So, DH has offered to be in charge of DS that day while I am with my friend, and then he thinks that my inlaws should come get DS at the church after the wedding and take him back to their house. To be honest, I love that idea, but I feel guilty about it. After DH and DS, my BFF is the most important person in my life, I would do ANYTHING for her. So I really want my focus that day to be her. Does that make me a horrible mom? I mean, he is invited to the reception but I would rather him be with his grandparents for the night. I feel horrible for feeling that way. Has anyone been been a maid of honor and also had their very young child at the wedding? Did it work out ok? I am just so torn!

Re: wedding question
I am right with you. Both my boys (3.5 and my 1 yr old will be 21 months) are in my SIL's wedding. I am the MOH. We are very close and DH is an usher. I totally plan on having a sitter come and help with the boys so I can focus on my SIL, getting ready the day of and doing anything SIL needs. DH will help, but we will be in lots of pics before the wedding. I need someone to keep them occupied, help get them dressed, fed and stay in case one has a meltdown. Also, changing diapers. Not gonna be easy in an evening gown. Lol After the ceremony they will go back to my IL's house around the corner where the babysitter will put them to bed. DH and I can focus on the wedding. You shouldn't feel guilty at all. It's a fun day and you're allowed to enjoy yourself. I'm usually not a fan of kids at a wedding. My niece and nephews were just part of the ceremony too and then went to sleep in the bridal suite where a sitter sat with them. I think it's best to have your IL's come as long as your comfortable with them then you're fine.

Re: wedding question
Totally have him picked up! My two boys were in my SIL wedding in September- they were almost 6 and 2.5. They participated in church and came for pictures. My intent was to have my little one picked up after being introduced into the reception, but he was being beastly and I had him picked up about halfway through cocktail hour. I wish I had him picked up before cocktail hour started. DH and I spent half the time basing him rather then enjoying ourselves and spending time with the bride and groom. My older one stayed until he got tired and asked to go home- it was only 9:30.

You know your kids better then I do, but my 6 year old was exhausted by 9:30 and voluntarily asked to go home. I thought he would be in the dance floor all night, but I guess it was just too long of a day for him. Is there anyway you can have someone pick them up an hour or do into it do they can still have a little fun, but you and DH can have some fun too?
