Sciatica...

For those of you who had it and still went to work during the day what did you do when it got bad at work? There are times I'll be ok, able to get around without too much pain/discomfort but then I'll move a certain way and literally won't be able to get up from my chair or take another step. It's so frustrating!!

Re: Sciatica...

I had it with my DS and I was commuting into the city. Walking from the LIRR, to the Subway and then to my office would literally make me cry. Once I got to work, it was fine bc I really didn't walk around that much. I have no clue how I even did it!! I stopped commuting at 37 weeks bc it was too difficult.

I'm starting to get it this time around, too. I'm a SAHM now, so if it's really acting up, I just take it easy.

I hope you get some relief soon!

Sciatica...

Thanks! I am going to get a tennis ball and then PRAY it only lasts for a short while. I go into the city once a week for work and my office is literally across the street from Penn Station and I wanted to cry by the time I got over here.

I agree, its just terrible! I've had it on and off since early on. now its happening mostly at night and waking me up. My legs defintely hurt a lot when I walk also. Just trying to stay off my feet. Going to start doing stretches and maybe get back on the elliptical...

Do you think the elliptical would help? I have one at home but I'm afraid to even look at it right now!

I don't know, I was thinking it might just because it loosens everything up without the impact of walking. I'm thinking really easy, slow movements though.

I have no idea though - It could be the worse idea ever LOL

Re: Sciatica...

Can you put something under your desk to put your foot/leg on? I had sciatica really bad with my first DC, like, had to go to physically therapy bad, and they suggested this would help. I have something under my desk now that stays there, but if I need it, I put my leg up and it stretches that area.

If not, stretch-get up and walk around. You may not want to, but you need to. Try bending side to side very slowly, this will relieve tension.

The way Sciatica was explained to me, is that there is a muscle that runs from your lower back, down through your butt. If that muscle gets inflamed, the muscles around it try to compensate and swell up to make that muscle go down. Unfortunately, what results is that sciatica muscle getting squished and causing pain. So, you have to try to keep it stretched out and not inflamed. Cold compress will also help, not heat. Feel better, I wouldn't wish that pain upon anyone, I got to the point where I had to be on medication and couldn't walk 3 steps.

Re: Sciatica...

A nice bubble bath is in order!!! Chat Icon I take them almost 2-3 times a week and they help immensely! I also coach hockey so it gets worse after skating....but I just try not to do the long stride movements.
