Question for those who have family watching LO during the day

So SIL will be watching our LO during the day. I am a teacher so we don't need her for the summer or school vacation.

Just curious if you have family watching your child how much do you pay them a week or month? Just seeing what is average. She stays at home with her own LO so this is her only income.

And if you happen to be a teacher as well. Do you still pay the whole month? Not pay for the week off...pay partially for a week off? Just seeing how to do this when it comes time.

Question for those who have family watching LO during the day

Is she expecting to get paid? If she is depending on this for income I would treat it as a true nanny. If you will be home (or DH) then she still gets paid. I know in home nannies are around $13+ an hour. Pay her weekly. I would have a last day you will need her to watch your LO so she can plan accordingly as well. So if you know your last day of work is June 18th, tell her that is the last day. This way she knows when she is getting paid thru til.

Yea the plan right now is to pay her $200 a week. She knows that she will not have her during the summer so won't be getting paid.

I spoke to one friend who had her cousin watching her LO in the beginning...and she would only pay for half a week if she didn't drop of the baby. So thinking this is what I may suggest as well. Not sure how people usually handle this.

We pay $60 a day 3 days a week. If we cancel morning of we pay for the full day but most of the time it's a fight and settle at half a day, if we cancel night before we don't pay. She has other kids she watches (although it works out she is the only child on the days we need her) so we looked at want day care would cost and agreed on this price. We also take the baby to her everyday vs her coming to us.

Re: Question for those who have family watching LO during the day

MY DH's aunt watches our LO we pay her $200 a week. If we take a day off or a weeks vacation we still pay her. At 1st my DH didnt agree we should pay her if LO is not there all week but my reasoning is 1 this person is watching the most precious thing in our lives and I want to make sure I keep her as happy as possible. My other reasoning was when we take a day off or take a vacation we still get paid from our jobs so why shouldnt she?

Im not a teacher so I dont have the summer issue, but I would probably work out w/ her that you'll pay her for all the days during the school calendar, but the 2 months in the summer time you dont expect to pay her.

MIL watches my children 5 days/wk. We only pay her $100/wk but we also pay her a full week no matter what (vacations, sick days, etc). DH is usually laid off 4-12wks a year and we'll still pay during this time. We have this agreement because we are paying her so little to begin with and I do not want to lose her.
