If the nursery is right next to your bedroom....

where are you having your baby sleep when they get home from the hospital? I wanted to start her in the crib right away because her bedroom is right next to ours (with a monintor of course), but some people I talk to just assume she will be with us in our room so I'm not sure if I am doing the right thing.

My girls slept in my room for the first 3 months, and we'll do the same with my new baby. It was just easier because I breastfed and I could nurse the baby in bed comfortably at night.

Re: If the nursery is right next to your bedroom....

Our situation is a little different. We have an in line high ranch that is split into a 2 family. We currently have 3 bedrooms upstairs, 1 for us, and 1 for each child. DH uses the downstairs as his office. He will move out and we will utilmatly move our bedroom downstairs. All kids will be upstairs and bedrooms will be switched around. Thats not going to happen before the baby is born. So long story short, if I was in your situation, I would def consider having the baby go right into the crib. However, the baby will be in our room for awhile. I put DD in her crib fairly quickly and although I have sleep problems now at age 6, she was a good sleeper as a baby.

We have a small apt and LO room is right next to ours. We will use a bassinet for the first few weeks because I will be BF and want her close so it's easy to feed her. I plan to put her for naps in her crib, and not sure when but hope to transfer her into her crib after a few weeks.

Our bedroom is right next door to the baby room. We plan on putting him in the crib right away. We are aware that this might not work and are willing to put the pack and play in our bedroom, but the plan s to put him in his room

Our room is in between my DS room and what will be the twins' room. My DS slept in a bassinet in our room until about 4m and I plan to do the same for the twins. It's just so much easier to have them right next to me for night feedings... plus, I wouldn't want to wake my older DS buy opening/closing doors in the middle of the night.

Re: If the nursery is right next to your bedroom....

We started our DS out in a cradle in our room. He was there until he was 3 months old. At 3 mos we noticed that he'd stir when we came to bed and just felt he might sleep better in his own crib in his own room. He wasn't STTN yet. We moved him at 3 mos and transitioned beautifully to his crib, no issues. Only woke once at night so it wasn't an issue going to his room. Started STTN 4 weeks later.

We plan on doing the same with DC2.

Im making a co-sleeping nursery. My 2 older kids refused to sleep in cribs so I am not even wasting my time trying. I EBF so it works out perfectly, baby cradled in my arm, boob out & I'll get a full night's sleep aside from a diaper change in the middle of the night. I feel kinda bad my hubby will be in a different bedroom but it's not like our older kids ever let us have our bed to ourselves anyway ( which we dont mind) plus he's a light sleeper so it's been hard on him in the past with a newborn screaming waking him up on a work night so it works out for everyone. I feel like Im getting to decorate my own bedroom in a way while finding a theme to compliment a baby boy at the same time which has been a challenge but it's pretty exciting for me.

DCs room is right next to our bedroom and we have a video monitor but we still used the bassinet for the first 3 months. Transition to the crib was fine. Do what you feel comfortable with. There is a lot of up and down at all hours so you might want the baby right there next to you.

Re: If the nursery is right next to your bedroom....

3 weeks to go and still not sure.

My sister is giving me her cosleeper if we want to keep the baby in our room, but that will be at the foot of our bed because our room is very small. I may just put her right into her crib.

I highly doubt I will be breastfeeding in our bed. I didn't do it with our son either. I always got up and sat in the glider or went to the living room to nurse. I'm still going to have to go into her room to change her diaper after feeding anyway, so I'll be up and walking around the house anyway.

It will really depend on how I feel when I get home from the hospital.

we plan to have him in the rock and play in our room for atleast a month or so. but that can change. to door to his room is directly across from our door... all of 5 steps from our door. I just like the idea of having him close by in the beginning, I am not breastfeeding so not even cause of that.

We're in an apartment with the bedrooms right next to each other and plan on putting he/she right into the crib. DH has the side closer to the door so him and I are going to switch sides of the bed while I'm not working and then we'll switch back when I go back to work and he takes some time off.

I'm not going to do feedings in our bedroom (I plan on doing them in the glider) and DH has a hard time sleeping so I don't want him to be compromised and lose out on his sleep.

Don't let anyone tell you what you should and shouldn't do with your own child. I'm a strong believer in "you raised your kid, let me raise ours" but then again DH and I come from STRONG families that will probably tell us everything we are "doing wrong".

We are still torn. I would like to put him in his crib right away especialy since we set up the glider in there for feedings. Plus it's not like it's SO far from our room. Same floor two doors down, just a bathroom in between. But I have feeling I'm not going to want him that far in the beginning and might just have him in the RnP in our room... the transition would just have to happen before I go back to work.

I don't know why, but I had such a hard time with dd in our room. I just kept waking up and checking on her constantly. I don't think I slept more than a wink the first 3 nights she came home. By the 4th night, we moved her to her crib in her room, which is like 10 steps from our bed to her crib. And, we used the monitor. I slept so much better! I would just use the glider in her room for feelings and then go back to bed.
