majestic colonial & DR question

For those who've been to the majestic colonial in the DR what did you think? We went to Beaches T&C last year and had an AMAZING time! But, we want to do something a little cheaper. I can fly on miles to the DR or Cancun so I was looking for anything in those areas to go with DH and my 2 year old and 8 month old. Would you recommend this place? We want an AI b/c it makes life SO much easier and more fun with young kids. Can anyone recommend any other place that they think is BETTER than majestic colonial that has a similar concept to Beaches? Beaches Jamaica was also expensive and we don't really want to go there and can't fly on miles there. Was Majestic in any way "trashy?" (I don't know how to put it) b/c it is cheaper? I am afraid of really long crazy lines at buffets and stuff. Beaches was very calm and absolutely stunning. Thanks for any advice. Beaches was the only AI we've done. We can also go to St. Martin on miles but I don't see anything there that looks appealing.

ETA: If you've been to the DR in general with babies, did you encounter any problems? I am concerned about the water and washing bottles. Did you wash in regular water, and was everything fine? Not sure how else to wash the bottles Chat Icon

majestic colonial

I can't help ya but I too am currently looking at this place... I'm also considering melia caribe tropical... They have a whole flintstones kids area that I'm sure your 2 yr old would be really into.

Re: majestic colonial & DR question

We are fans of Beaches in T&C, however, for 3 years we went to Punta Cana, specially because it was some much cheaper. We had fun, although it is a bit different than T&C. The first 2 years we went to the "Melia Caribe". The first year it was good, although I thought the resort was very big. It is good if you are in the VIP area, but the beach was very far away…. you could walk for 10 minutes, although the have a little train and mini carts to take you to the beach. For me, it wasn't vey accommodating. At T&C we used the kids club, but, for some reason, I didn't feel comfortable leaving DS on this hotel, maybe, because of the size of the hotel. Beaches is big, but the kids area is closed to nice pools. On the other hand, at the Melia, the pool closed by the kids area wash;t in the VIP area.

The second year it was awful. The service was not as good. Many afternoons they didn't have towels in the pool. One day I complained and the next day (when the same problem was happening) another woman said to me in Spanish "Ah, you are the woman that was complaining yesterday about it" Chat Icon

The last trip to PC we went to the Majestic. It was good. Not too many lines, although they don't have as many options as T&C. We had breakfast at the same place every day. Dinner here and there and it was ok. One of the restaurants have two areas - steakhouse and seafood. I wanted seafood and DH steak. They didn't want to accommodate us, until I got pissed. The pool is one and a looong one, but you can reach the beach very easily. The service was good. In all, IMO, nothing can be compared to T&C, but you won't go to a free for all there, either. Nice shows and activities with latin music, which I loved Chat Icon and even, the last night, with music from the 80's. That was fun. They have games for the kids to play.
