toothpaste
My are 14 months old. We have been brushing their teeth for awhile now. Just the toothbrush and water which ped said was fine. I asked her about using the baby (flouride free toothpaste) and she said we could if we wanted to.
I just picked it up yesterday. I bought the Tom's of Maine brand. It said 6 months - 3years. It says to have them rinse out after brushing on the directions. It also says on the front safe if swallowed.
How the heck will I get them to rinse out? Do you just put a little on and brush and forget about them rinsing out. It's strawberry flavored I think so hopefully it wouldn't taste bad.

You don't. My Ped said they will end up eating it. He also suggested the Tom's. HE said he found it to be the oen with the least added and no flouride.

Re: toothpaste
We just started using toothpaste a few days ago and I notice the SAME thing on the earths best package. I dont think there's any way to get them to spit.

They don't rinse. All toothpaste made for kids under 2 shouldn't have fluoride and should be safe for them to swallow.

Re: toothpaste
We don't rinse. We just wet the toothbrush & brush his teeth with just the water after we brush his teeth with toothpaste.

Re: toothpaste
As PPs said, they don't have to spit. I used to try every so often to get DS to spit and once he showed me he could consistently spit out the baby toothpaste, that's when we switched to grown-up toothpaste.

That's what we do as well.

Ok. good to know. That's what I figured. I kept thinking I must be nuts, but why on earth would they even put that on a package (for them to spit). I kept saying to DH what 6 month old knows how to rinse their mouth out??
Just curious, when did your DS get the hang of spitting out the toothpaste?

DS didn't get the hang of it until he was 3 1/2.
