If you have a little night owl...
How did you get your baby to go to sleep at a typical bed time?
After the initial newborn phase Dd has never been a great sleeper. She makes you work to get a nap out of her and at night we did what we had to in order to get her to sleep. I admit to several "baby sleep sins" e.g. nursing her to sleep because that's what worked. Gradually we have broken her of the bad habits (most of them ) but she has never fallen asleep any earlier than 11pm. Even if she falls asleep around 9pm it's never deep and she'll wake up screaming if I try to transfer her into the crib. Any suggestions?
Also, the last week has been a nightmare and any progress made has gone down the tubes. She's 8mos and most likely teething (already has bottom front teeth so doctor says top teeth should be on the way) but tylenol hasn't made the situation better and my old tricks aren't working. I need new tricks or a baby whisperer. Anyone?

I would try Motrin - it seems to ease the pain of teething a bit more than Tylenol because it helps alleviate swelling.
My DS 1 is a horrible sleeper and we broke every rule as well - we were so tired - we did what we needed to do.
I would try getting her down earlier - a little bit at a time - like 15 minutes earlier at a time until you get her to a desired bedtime. I know a lot of people aren't fans but, CIO worked for us as well.
Good luck.

Hyland's Teething Tablets (not Humphries) work very well for DD, maybe try that.

Love these! If its pain try pain control like motrin or the tablets.
Otherwise, I never tried to make her fit into a schedule. She just doesnt sleep at 7, 8, 9. I mean now at 4 she goes to bed at 9:15 an we consider it early!
When she was smaller we tried, we really did. The quite, dark, soothe etc. but it never worked. She would fall asleep at 8 then wake up at 2or3am full on AWAKE. Well no thank, you ma'am. We'd let her sleep at 8 then wake her up around 9 and keep her awake until she got her second wind then she'd fall asleep again at 10 or 11 and sleep until 5am which was much more doable for us.
She did sleep around 8pm at one point but not for long. She's just NOT an early sleeper and I'm ok with that. More time for this FTWM to see her kiddo!

Re: If you have a little night owl...
Thank you for your responses!
We did try tylenol and hyland's and so far she still hasn't had a "normal" night. At this point she is falling asleep at 11pm, waking up when I put her in the crib, 15min of soothing so that I can sneak out of the room once she's settled again, then wake up 15min later and start playing with her crib bumper (which she managed to detach last night.) Guess we'll just keep trying!

If you have a little night owl...
We are having sleep issues at 8 months too. DD always went to bed awake with no issues from about 2 months old. She got out of her routine with all the christmas events and then right after cut two teeth. The teeth are now in but I'm having still having trouble. I nurse her and then we go through the rest of the routine but she seems hyper and cries when we put her down. I end up nursing her again, pretty much to sleep and then she'll go in the crib. She wakes up within 3-4 hours (which she always has) but I have trouble getting her back down. She'll cry after 10-15 minutes and I end up picking her up and nursing her back to sleep again. Last night I got fed up and tried CIO when this happened. I went in at intervals and it took maybe 25 minutes for her to finally go back to sleep. I've tried this before but I never stick to it. I'm just not sure how far to push her since she usually wakes twice a night and I've always nursed her then. I don't want to try to cut out the feedings, especially not both at once, but I need her to at least go back to sleep after she nurses. Sorry I really have no advice, but hopefully these kiddos start sleeping better soon!
