upset about furniture
Dont know what to do.. Dh doesnt really want to spend the money on furniture.. he thinks its way expensive and we can find cheaper. but unfortunately the prices are all the same.. :( so then I suggested our familes chipping in and getting us the furniture for our shower which he was ok with but then it turns out to be a lot of people chipping in and hes afraid we wont get the essentials.. and all the little things we need. I feel like to me the furniture is most important..Our house is still in consturction so I think thats why we are trying to get it ready for baby so he thinks the crib and drawer we can get better priced... Help.. what should I do?

Re: upset about furniture
I would buy the crib you like and then maybe shop sales/craigslist to find some matching pieces.
Is there a closet in the room? You can get just the crib and a dresser that can be used as a changer.
Where have you looked? There are places that have lower prices than BBB and BRU and Behrs. Try JC Penney, Target, online, etc.
Maybe you and DH can buy 1 piece and have your parents chip in for another. Then the rest of the guests can get other essentials.

Def look at non-baby stores...we found a crib we liked at walmart which is highly rated but very inexpensive...also ikea has lots of furniture that can be used which is not necessarily "baby" furniture...I think prices seem to get exaggerated when it comes to baby things

Try Amazon also.
ETA: The reason we got the set we got was because it isnt just baby furniture... We bought the toddler rails and full bed rails for the crib... we got the Stratford Collection... and we were able to use 20% off coupons at BuyBuy Baby.

I know a few people that got their furniture from Costco and its really nice and well made.
You can always use 20% off coupons for each piece of furniture at Buy Buy Baby.
Target has some nice stuff and sometimes you can see it in the store.
JC Penney is also nice but you can only purchase online.
I would take the advice of a PP and pick out the crib you want and then get the dressers at like Ikea or Target.

I got my crib from overstock.com, it was relatively inexpensive and came quickly. I'm reusing my own childhood dressers and stuff, I'm really cheap though and think some of the prices for these things are absurd.

Re: upset about furniture
If your house is still under construction, I'd wait to purchase the furniture. Baby is in a bassinet the first 2 months or so anyway, so technically you don't 'need' the furniture right now.
I'm not sure how expensive is expensive to you, but you can definitely get nice quality furniture on sale and with coupons from places like BBB.
You can also by the crib and then buy the dresser later on.
good luck!

I read the reviews and they all come with it!! Even the toddler rail which isn't even pictured!!! I'm hoping my MIL likes it cause she is super picky and if she thinks its too cheap she won't get it!! haha! Not that I'm complaining since she is buying it for us!

Honestly I spent a decent amoutn of money for our furniture and I do love it but I kind of feel like it was a waste. I could have found cheaper stuff that would probably hold up just as nice. And I know it will not be his forever furniture.

No Problem!! Just make sure to read the reviews, some cribs require a certain matress in order for it to fit properly!

Re: upset about furniture
You should definitely check out Buy Buy Baby. We needed to buy a 2nd crib for my parents' house since they were going to be watching my DS M-F and we got a fantastic and highly rated crib at BBB for like $200! It was crazy. It was a model that was being phased out and they had 3 floor models left and so they had a great price plus we had a 20% coupon. We paid more for the mattress than the crib! I really like the crib, it's well made and compares nicely to our other crib at home which was 4 x's the price.
I personally don't think that buying pricey furniture is a waste and I'm really happy with the furniture we have for our DS, even though it was so expensive. He's 3 and it's beautiful and we purchased it intending it to be his furniture for a long time BUT, you should only buy what you can really afford. Babies are so very expensive so you want to make sure that you aren't strapped for money. As long as you like what you buy and it's safe and holds up for a long time if you need it to, your child won't know whether it cost $100 or $1000.

Exactly this!!
We were going to go with this expensive set from BRU and the quality was crap for the price. We ended up buying a beautiful crib from Walmart, and the rest of the furniture from IKEA and saved a ton on the furniture. Paid 1/4 of what we would of paid for the same stuff if it was from a baby store.
And the walmart crib had great reviews in baby bargains.

Re: upset about furniture
If you have time to wait a little find what you want and order it from NC. Prices are much cheaper even when it includes shipping.

upset about furniture
I regret buying a set that converts to a full bed. It was expensive and already looks like we have had it for 10 years. I feel like baby furniture is made so cheap compared to other furniture I have in my house, and we did not go with a cheap brand. Get a nice sturdy crib, and get cheaper other pieces, or a nice quality dresser tha will grow with DC and last for years. If I could do it over that's what I would do. I use the dresser as a changing table too, and it works just as good.

I'd wait to see what you're having first! Get the bassinet, then let the grandparents and everyone fawn over that baby- they'll buy the crib, trust me Besides, if it's a girl aren't you going to want girly girl stuff?
