Question for those who previously delivered at Stony Brook

Both my boys went right to the NICU after delivery and stayed there after we were discharged. So I'm going into this delivery with hope that our new ds will be in the regularly nursery.
So here's my question how does it work? When does the baby come to your room? How does BF work? Do you bring a daily change of clothes for the baby?
I have so many questions and I can't think of them now.
If there is anything else i should know please feel free to share
Thanks !Chat Icon

Re: Question for those who previously delivered at Stony Brook

I delivered there a few years ago... they let you have DC whenever you want basically... I remember having an option if you wanted them to spend the night in your room or not... if you choose to have them sleep in the nursery, they bring the baby to you every few hours to get fed if you are nursing...

no need to bring clothes- they put the baby in something... i just brought different hats to make him look cute... and a going home outfit...

Re: Question for those who previously delivered at Stony Brook

Once the nursery was finished assessing DD they brought her back to me and she stayed there pretty much except when she had to be weighed and examined again in the nursery. The provided blankets, diapers, Tshirts etc. I was trying to learn to nurse and was quite overwhelmed with the varying advice but the staff are knowledgable.

This. I just delivered there at the beginning if December and after her initial check up in the nursery and her final checkup before we were discharged, DD was in the room with us the entire time. You could have asked to have your baby sleep in the nursery, but I wanted to try and figure out what to do with her before we got her home. The nurses were very helpful with everything, from assisting with breastfeeding to teaching us how to change her diaper (DH and I were pretty clueless!!). All diapers and clothes/blankets are provided for you. The only thing I wish I brought for DD was a cute hat or something for her to wear. That being said, she was a tiny peanut and none of the hats I have for her fit her tiny head anyway so it wouldn't have mattered if I remembered one or not! Overall though, my stay was good and very helpful for two first time parents.
