Any tips on teaching appreciation for toys/belongings?

I have great kids (what parent wouldnt say that Chat Icon ). But lately I feel my oldest doesn't respect her toys or our house/furniture. And now after Christmas they have so much.

Any tips on teaching an almost 5yo the value of things & replacing things cost money.

Right now we take away anything not properly being used.

Well we take away anything they are rough with. I have told them if it breaks it is NOT replaced and if they don't treat their stuff nicely then they will not get new things. While they fight over toys sometimes. They generally are pretty good with their things that I don't worry too much. But we do have to take something away for a day sometimes. I do go over with them about care of breakable things (wii, leappad) I think that helps. As far as rough with furniture etc. They sit in their room or get a minute to calm down if they jump etc. Now usually they just need an "do we jump.." and they immediately stop.

Maybe give her an allowance or money for chores then take her shopping so she can see how much you have to work to get what you want.

Hmmmmm that might be a thought....have her see her working/chores & make it equal money.

They really are great about putting away, sharing, 98% of the time, but lately I feel like after Christmas it's like there is a disconnect.

I think the chores help. I also show them how much toys cost. Have them help pay for birthday gifts for friends. They pay the cashier (not with their money) but we discuss how much the toy costs, how many chores she would have to do to buy it etc.

I like! She has chores, but never thought at this age to link it to money.
