Anyone selling furniture that's in good shape?
My brother who is disabled is finally moving into his own apartment. He needs everything except bedroom furniture and a TV.
He thinks he's rich but he's not. He is vehemently opposed to used furniture but if it's in great shape and fairly recent he may be flexible. We have to convince him that he's flexible.
He needs a couch, chair possibly or loveseat, coffee table, kitchen table and chairs to start with.
We are going to get him a brand new bed.
Best choice for linens and bed and bath stuff is probably kohls, marshalls, homegoods or the like. I think even with coupons BBB is expensive.
My other choice is go new for the furniture and use some of the interest free financing available. I would rather limit the debt load but whatever is necessary.
Any and all ideas are appreciated.

Re: Anyone selling furniture that's in good shape?
My father in law passed away a few weeks ago. His entire house will be foreclosed upon because he had a reverse mortgage and DH has no interest in buying the house. It's a huge house with tons of furniture and we have been selling it piecemeal here and there, and sometimes giving it away for free because neither of us have time to really administer his estate.
If you FM me his email or your email, I can send you pictures of what furniture is available. If anyone else is interested, please feel free to do so. The only caveat is that you have to go in person to Baldwin to pick it up.

Re: Anyone selling furniture that's in good shape?
Certain items I would definitely purchase new, only because I'm a nut about the bed bug epidemic. (i.e. couch/chairs/love seats anything soft and squishy).
Places like Bob's and Big Lots will work with you, especially if you let them know he's in a program and doesn't have a lot of money to spend.
I've also gotten new mattresses on a whim at the Salvation Army on Rt. 109 in Babylon before.
Also for certain items like basic dishes and sliverware and such, you can do really well at the Dollar Tree believe it or not.
When I've had to do a move-in for a client, I often go here to get the basics for an apartment set-up.
I'm not in the office again till Monday but I will try to ask one of my SCs about his resources. He is totally into shopping and making the new apartment as nice as possible, on as little as possible and knows some people.

I have this couch in this exact color. It is microfiber and I purchased it in 2006. It has not been used as a primary couch in 4 years. It is in good condition and could use to be cleaned due to dust collection.
FM if you are interested.

I got a couch from Big Lots - and we love it... we got one from Bob's and the cushions are sinking very fast- wouldn't buy them again.

My girlfriend got a couch from Big Lots for her FIL a few years ago. Still holding up great.
I can't believe this with your brother. Such amazing news!

I have a solid marble kitchen table (it's a beautiful piece of furniture) that we're getting rid of because we're taking out the EIK and putting in more cabinets. It has 4 chairs. 3 are in great condition and one needs the seat re-upholstered. FM me if you want to see pictures!

Re: Anyone selling furniture that's in good shape?
I would also check out some estate sales in nicer areas as you sometimes get really good quality for not much. Usually family wants to get rid of the stuff so the price is good.
Check out Macy's furniture store on glen cove road before you hit voice road (next door to toyrus mall) in carle place. They have a clearance area and friends I know got some nice couches and chairs for good prices for colleges or new apartments. It is hit and miss but worth a walk through to see what you can find. The quality can be good but cheaper than some of the cheaper furniture places. But again hit and miss.

Re: Anyone selling furniture that's in good shape?
My MIL bought a beautiful mission-style dining room set (8 chairs) from Salvation Army a few years ago for less than $500. Might be worth checking there?
