Things to do in Central MA/ maybe Northern CT?
For 10 years my mom and I took a day trip every fall to the Yankee Candle flagship store (it's a lot more than candles ) in Deerfield, MA. It takes us about 3-3.25 hours with no traffic. Well, we started doing this when I was young and led a lower stress life and now with a long work commute, 2 kids, and most of the driving responsibility I have proclaimed that there is no way I am driving almost 7 hours to do it in a day anymore. So it's an overnight trip, which we always hesitated to do for a few reasons. But that's okay.
I think we're going to stay somewhere in mid Massachusetts - most likely the Country Inn and Suites in Holyoke because I am very close to a free night with them. I'm open to other places though.
My mom lost everything in Sandy so I want to make this special. It's designed to be a shopping trip for her rebuilt home (Yankee Candle has a huge decor area.) However, we'll have my almost 3 year old DS, so I'd like to balance out the shopping with other activities where he can run around a bit - a kid's activity or a nice park.
What are some other things to do in the area? Not Boston - we did that last year and it's further than I want to go from that area anyway.
Northern Connecticut works too.
Thanks!

I was looking into some things - I have family outside of Hartford and it's a long day trip for the kids.
Check out this website - they list a bunch of family friendly things in the Springfield area.

And here's a list for the Hartford Area

If Old Sturbridge Village is near there, I would recommend that. I loved it when I was younger and my dad always said it was nicer than Colonial Williamsberg,
