Overwhelmed FTM: Is this considered a Rock n Play?

Feeling a bit overwhelmed here with the registry and just the idea of having a baby and making sure she will be alright.

I am notfeeling to confident in the sleeping arrangement. We want her in our room for awhile, well as long as we can have her in there. But I keep seeing so many different options, Crib, pack n play, rock n play, co-sleepr or bassinett.

I keep going back and forth and questioning everything I decide on.

1. How long can we have her in the room?
2. What will she be most comfortable sleeping in?

For example, I added this to the registry, but can she sleep in it overnight or is it only truly for napping?

For overnight sleeping you need something flat. If the baby will have it's own room then I would assume you would have the crib in there but if you have enough space in your bedroom you could put it there. Otherwise, a bassinet/cradle or a pack n play are better stand alone options for the baby in your room. The co-sleeper is fine too but that is attached to the side of your bed (no moving it around the room).

As far as how long you can have the baby in your room....
Technically as long as you want or as long as the baby still fits comfortably in the cradle/bassinet etc...

We had our DD in our room for the first 12 weeks. We had a wooden cradle that was lent to us by our friends. I liked it because it was basically a mini crib so when we moved her to the crib at 12 weeks it was a piece of cake. No transition issues, I don't think she even noticed she made the move. Chat Icon

I had a rocker type seat like the one you posted for her to use throughout the day but I didn't use it for bedtime. You can always just use the Pack n Play in your room for the first few weeks. It has the bassinet part so the baby rests up higher. We would've used that for nighttime if we didn't have the cradle.

Hope this helps. Chat Icon

Don't be overwhelmed!! I kept ddi in our room until 8 months (because that's how I felt comfortable). For the first 4 months, dd slept in the fisher price rock and play sleeper. Once she was rolling, we switched to the portacrib in our room (similar to a pack and play but just a crib). I will say the rock and play was my favorite baby item for the first 4 months. I brought it with us to mil's for her naps, etc. I used the pack and play mostly to keep her occupied...put her in it with toys.

Babies don't need to be flat, they should be on their backs though.

I have the same issues running through my mind. According to Consumer Reports, the safest place for a baby to sleep is a crib bc most bassinets aren't jpma certified. However, millions of babies sleep in it and are just fine..which confuses me more! The options I am considering is building the crib in my room for a little while, having the baby sleep in his or her own room and I use the monitor in my room, having the baby sleep in his/ her own room and my husband and I sleep on an air mattress in there, or just use a playpen w. bassinet feature in our room regardless of consumer reports. I know many people that used the rock and play, but I don't know if it's meant for overnight sleep. If you go into amazon and read the negative reviews many parents had issues with this product. If I were you I'd read them and call Fisher Price before you make a decision. Good luck

We had the pack and play with newborn napper and a bassinet (don't ask, we had to get it together)..we didnt have the rock and play but found the most bang for our buck in the pack and play because later, she could play in it while I showered, etc...the bassinet was a hand me down...she went into her crib in her room and 3 months and slept very well since...DH made me put her in then and I have to say...it was a good decision!

Thank you all for your input, it has helped. I must be hormonal because lately everything wants to make me cry. I think we are going to go have the crib in our room and then move her into her room later on.

Crashing - it is a hard decision! There is no rule - it's all personal preference.

With DS 1 - he was in a at night bassinet for about a month (either in the pack and play or a separate bassinet). and then we moved him into his room in his crib because he was really loud!!! He would sleep and we wouldn't. He napped either being held or in the swing.

With DS 2 - he stayed with us for 3-4 months in the Fisher Price Rock N Play Sleeper and then moved to the crib. He napped a little in the swing, bouncy, or his infant seat - if he fell asleep when we were out and about.

If you haven't gotten it yet - I recommend the book Baby Bargains - it helps steer you in the right direction when it comes to registering and makes it a bit less overwhelming.

we used a bassinet for 2 weeks and didnt love it. ended up getting the rock n play and LOVED it. she slept in it until she was 8 months old. she was a great sleeper and STTN often. we switched to the crib at 8m and she has STTN every night since (she's 19m old). the rock n play was def the best thing we bought. the pack n play was too big for our room and RNP was perfect and so portable for when we went away or moved her into different rooms. she slept in our room for about 2 months, then we moved her into the living room for about 4m, and then into her room for another 2m before she went into the crib. the transitions were seamless.

Re: Overwhelmed FTM: Is this considered a Rock n Play?

We tried a bassinet and he hated it. We ended up having him sleep in the rock and play in our room. We have this one and its great b/c its portable. We went out for nye to and we brought it with us so DS was able to sleep. Our bedroom is upstairs so we also bring it up and down wherever we are.

Thanks everyone!! I think I am just overthinking/overanalysing it all. I am stuck on the whole "should the baby SLEEP at night in a NAPPER?" concept.

Re: Overwhelmed FTM: Is this considered a Rock n Play?

im so overwhelmed too!!! i live in a 1 bedroom apartment and have such limited space. I have people telling me you MUST have a swing and other say you MUST have a rock n play and others say you MUST have a pack n play etc.
my conclusion...all babies are different and you cant figure out now what your baby will or wont like.
my plan is to get the little rocker/napper and hope that works. if not, ill try something else.
