At what age do you go to stage 2 baby food...
and give them yogurt and other things like mashed avocado?
ETA: Do you just try new foods/go up in stages on your own or wait for your ped to tell you? I feel like if I don't specifically ask my ped, no direction is given.

We went to stage two once we finished all of the veggies, fruit, meats from stage 1. DS was 8 months or so.

We started at about 6 months. No yogurt due to milk allergy but mashed table foods and jarred/pouched Stage 2.

Once DS had all the basic stage one foods and was eating more volume wise I moved to the stage 2. For the combos I made sure he had already had one out of two (or two out of three) ingredients so if he had a reaction I knew which one it was from. As for yogurts he was about 7-8 months or so before I gave him any. Mashed avacado and other things not sold in jars, I gave him from the beginning.

As long as there was only one new food in it, we did stage 2 as soon as she went through the stage 1 foods so around 7 months. We did mashed avocado as one of her first foods so 6 months. Our ped suggested yogurt at 8 months but it seemed to make her very gassy so I'm not doing it often.

We started DD on fruits and veggies at 4.5 months. Her ped gave us a list of foods that he was okay with DD trying, in no particular order. He told us that some of them that he approved only game in a stage 2 blend, and that it was okay to use the stage 2 as long as she had already had the other fruits/veggies in the blend (i.e., there was only one new thing in the blend). now, at 6.5 months, we are still using a combo of stage 1 and stage 2 foods, b/c DD isn't a big eater, so stage 1 is a good portion for her. We will use half a stage 2 and fridge the rest though.
We started mashed avocado this week (her ped gave us the go ahead at 5 months), and she hated it, probably because it wasn't as smooth as a store-brought puree. She has a milk protein allergy, so no yogurt, but otherwise, she would be able to try it now. He gave us the go ahead for mashed potatoes, beans, tiny pieces of bread, etc, but I don't think she's really ready.
