Do you pay the bank any money before closing?
We are still debating which bank to go with, but one of the banks is now asking for us to pay the credit report fee and appraisal fee up front. Is this normal? I was under the impression that you didn't pay anything until closing.

I did...I believe it's standard. I think it came to $375 total.
I think I made them waive the credit fee after I kindly complained.

we just paid our dp at contract, and then the closing costs at closing

I know I did send them a check for $475, I believe it was the application fee. I don't remember if it was for the other fees.
