Costa Rica?
DH and I are planning our vacation for 2013. However, we are stumped on where to go...
We are thinking Costa Rica - any reviews or recommendations?
What about Jamaica? - How is there, what area should we look in?
Aruba? - We would love to go but its a little more than what we wanted to spend but any recommendations would be great.

My parents went here in Costa Rica and swear it was the best vacation they ever took and they travel A LOT!!!!!

we went to costa rica on our honeymoon and loved it! Check out Si Como No resort in Manuel Antonio. But, there are a TON of fabulous resorts in exotic places. We also went to Arenal to see the volcano.

We went to Arenal and Tamarindo this past summer and we will be going to Manuel Antonio and Drake Bay on the Osa peninsula this June.

WE STAYED there too!! AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING! We were in Costa Rica for 15 days. We stayed at Los Altos de Eros, Punta Islita, and the Springs Resort. It was an amazing vacation! I've traveled a ton esp in the Carib and Mexico. I hands down recommend Costa Rica over Jamaica.
ETA: for the person that asked I booked los altos de eros through their website.
ETA2: we travelled in August which is there rainy season. We only had one full day of rain. The other days it rained every so often, but not enough to ruin anything. We went repelling, zip lining, took surf lessons, cannon hiking, atv-ing.

i went to costa rica in feb and LOVED it
i cant recommend it enough
we did 2 weeks there and wish we could have stayed longer.
we flew into san jose and then stayed in one of the cloud forests (not the main one though). we were only there for 2 days and honestly could have skipped that part - we did go white water rafting while there.
then we went up to the hot springs and stayed at tabacon for almost 1 week. the hotel was gorgeous and the hot springs are included with your stay )whcih is nice bc most of the hotels dont have hot springs and so you have to pay and take buses to get to the hot springs). the hotel and hot springs were GORGEOUS! the food options at the hotel were lacking and were a bit pricey but it was fine. while we were there, we went zip lining, water fall rappelling (which i highly recommend - you wont find many other places to do it), we did a wildlife boat tour, sunset horseback riding on the beach and some other things that i am forgetting.
from there we went up to guanacaste and stayed at hotel punta islita
this place was so beautiful and peaceful. the staff was amazing - they went above and beyond for you. the plan here was to just relax after all our adventures and that is really all you can do here. we were going to go scuba diving, but it was dduring "red tide' so we were told the visibility was terrible and they didnt want us to waste our money. so instead we went deep sea fishing for the day, and caught a mahi mahi...which the hotel then cooked up for us for dinner that night. if you are looking for a social place then i do not suggest staying here. but you should make your way to guanacaste as there are other hotels that are probably more centrally located. from there we flew out of the other airport which i am drawing a blank on the name...
if you are into surfing, check out tamarindo - not sure about hotels there but we met a lot of people that were going there.

We also stayed at Si Como No on our Honeymoon - it was beautiful - but to be honest, I got a little nutty without the TV lol!
My favorite resort was Tabacon in Arenal. The hot springs were just incredible!

We went to Costa Rica last may, it was seriously the best vacation ever. We cant wait to go back!
Jamaica is nice but you are essentially limited to your resort so if you are looking to travel and see the country it's not going to happen there.
I know so many people love Aruba but it was just eh to me and DH. There's nothing special about it except you can roam freely. So many better places to go IMO.
My vote would be Costa Rica by far. We stayed by the coast (Pacific) bc DH wanted to be near the beach, next time we'll be staying near Arenal. We even made friends with a local there who we still keep in touch with!
