GAP return question

I quickly ran into the GAP on Friday to see if they had something for me to wear Christmas Eve.

I found a shirt and grabbed what I thought was a size Medium (it was high up on a hanger).

I went to get get dressed Christmas Eve and put the shirt on and I looked ridiuclous because it was so 'blously' looking. I realized then that I grabbed the Large by mistake.

I want to return it for the medium but I pulled the tag off - will they let me?

I didn't wear obvioulsy and I don't have the reciept.

or else just say the tag fell off while trying on
they'll take it back no questions asked i'm sure
