First Birthday Gift- Cost?
We have a first bday party to go to next weekend for a good friend and I am so lost as to what to get/how much to spend.
We just had DDs first bday party and her gifts ranged quite a bit.. so I am confused as to what is average-ish

I agree that $100 is appropriate.
I was surprised that most of our friends gave cash and gift cards. We were the first amongst our friends to have a baby. We had only one other child present.

Thanks for the responses. DD had gotten some checks/cash for around $100 but lots of toys/clothes that were more in the $25 range. I guess I will go somewhere in between.

I think depends on who and where.
A hall... Treat it like a christening and up the gift.
A home... $25 to $50 is good.

For a friend's one-year-old, between $25-$50 seems good. Closer to $50 if I knew the child well, closer to $25 if it's someone I didn't know too well.

First Birthday Gift- Cost?
My set for birthdays is $25. I have tons of kids parties to go to a year, not a mom yet and it gets super expensive. For the last two parties I went to, they turned 1, I gave $25 cash and a small toy.

I think $100 is ridiculous. $25-50 is completely acceptable. I usually try to do a $25 gift and $25 check/cash/gc

I usually agree with this.
We spent equal if not more on our home party than on our catering hall bday lunch for DS#1. We hired a party planner and entertainment for our home though. We did not have entertainment at the catering hall. We also spent significantly more on favors for our home party.

I was very generous for my friends DDs first birthday. But she also has been very generous with my DD and has given us so much baby gear, helped plan my shower and bought DD a lot of gifts. So Ithink it's a matter of your relationship and your own budget.

I am SO glad my friends don't think this way. Most gifts for DD were in the $25-$50 range and I think it's obnoxious to expect people to spend more because you had it at a hall. It's not like it was a wedding.

I never base what I give on where a party is held, a friend is a friend no matter where that party is held or even if there is no party at all.
That being said for my closer friends I have given first birthday gifts that cost anywhere from 50-100.

Same for us, I spend about 30-60ish on a first birthday regardless of place. I've been to some pretty insane home birthday parties that probably cost twice as much as other friends parties at places. I don't get why the location matters or how much the parents spent on the party. Give a gift you can afford that represents your relationship with the child. Closer friends I spend more time and money on and random play group friends and siblings of friends, less.
