Should I have an amino just because I am 35?
I am on Baby #2 and the Dr. recommended I have an amnio because I am now 35. MY DD was born healthy and beautiful!!
Is this necessary as long as the results of my 12 week sono are ok?
Thanks

Re: Should I have an amino just because I am 35?
I wouldn't have it...I will be 35 when I deliver and my doctor told me today there is no reason to have one unless they suspected something was wrong, and then and only then I would choose to have it...
i would wait to see your 12 week ultrasound/bloodwork results and not worry about it!

I refused (doc asked, I said no, we moved on). I see no reason unless there is a concern.

I was 34 while pregnant and turned 35 a few days before my girls were born. They recommended it but I refused since my nt scan came back great.

You should only have an amnio if you want it, and because you feel it would give you peace of mind. It's optional, and up to you!

Totally personal choice. I did not. I chose to do nuchal materniti 21 and then only if results had been really bad would I have done more. I'm 35. My friend is 36 and did the same tests as me and had good results but she still wants more testing. My doctor thought I chose correctly. He just laid out options for me. Didnt push one way or another

No. I was 34 with my first and 36 with my second wasn't told I needed an amino unless my tests came back with questionable numbers. There was no way I was getting an amino just based on my age. Of course this is jmo

Re: Should I have an amino just because I am 35?
I am 37 and expecting #2 and I refused the amino, genetic testing, and anything else outside of the NT scan and Level II. My odds for anything being wrong, according to the bloodwork, were so insanely low I saw no reason to test any further. 28 wks today and everything is great!
My OB didn't force the issue, they were fine with my decision.

I am 40 and did not do it. The invasive tests scare me, that's a personal thing though. I have friends who would not think of not doing CVS. I did the NT and materniT 21 and only would have done something more if I had bad results. My Dr actually did not rec'd amnio or CVS but I agree with the PP who said, it's whatever makes you feel best.

Re: Should I have an amino just because I am 35?
I'll be 37 when I deliver and I did not do it. I know the risks are low, but it was not worthit to me when there are non invasive measures availabale. I did the MaternitiT 21 test along with the nuchal scans and fetal echos I was happy with results. Had they been bad, I would have considered the CVS or Amnio.
I don't think there is reason to do it, unless there is a high risk. But that is a completely personal decision.

not JUST b/c your 35. It shld be a consideration if your markers & NT came back with concerns or out of range.
Don't stress and just wait for your results. Good Luck

Should I have an amino just because I am 35?
I had one for DS. I was 38. I asked for it. I wanted to know. I never did the NT scan. That test I feel is just a bunch of BS and can give bad results based on age alone.
It is a personal decision and one we discussed at great length. The risk of miscarriage was not even a real thought for me since it is so low and even lower with a great doc.
I can give you my amino experience if you want. Just FM me.

Re: Should I have an amino just because I am 35?
I am 36 and my doctor did not recommend an amnio because of my age. My NT scan results were fine but if not, I would have considered an amnio only because of the results.

Re: Should I have an amino just because I am 35?
It is completely a personal decision...
I am 44..I am almost 19 weeks and have had nothing yet..my NT and AFP results were extremely good so I have declined thus far..
when I have my level 2 if anything changes..my mind might change...
I was never told that I had to have one..they armed me with all of the info and we made the best decision for us..

Re: Should I have an amino just because I am 35?
It is a totally personal decision and depends on what YOU and only YOU and your DH are comfortable/ok with. I was 36 when I had #1, I did not have an amnio b/c NT results were great. DH wanted me to have it anyway, he is a 'need to know' kind of person. I refused it, and he was a nervous wreck for the remainder of the pregnancy.
This time around, at 38, I did have the amnio. I had the NT, and results were good, but I wanted my husband to relax and quite frankly I wanted that knoweldge too.
Only speaking from personal experience...I am a worrier....and glad I did the amnio. Waiting for the results was nerve wracking, but once I got them I felt a huge wave of relief.
I also can only speak from personal experince here,,,,,the amnio was NOTHING what I expected it to be. Similar to having your blood drawn, but instead of the arm, your stomach. It was much less of a deal than what I had prepared myself for. Again, this is just from personal experience. Good luck whatever you decide!

My OB didn't think it was necessary my NT results were beautiful so he didn't even recommend CVS or Maternit 21 either. I'll be 38.
