I've driven from Suffolk County to Wilmington, NC which is south and along the coast and I seem to remember it taking around 12 hours or so.

Re: How far is North Carolina?
My BIL makes this trip quite a bit and it takes him between 8 - 10 hours. That's just along the coast. If you have to go inland, the time it takes is all according to where you are going.

Mapquest is giving you the time to the state line probably. My sister lives in Charlotte and it is about 12 hrs for them

Re: How far is North Carolina?
We have relatives in Raleigh area. Usually if we leave at night (around 11 am) we get there at 8am in the morning with stoppping alot for breaks.
The trip extends if we leave at certain hours. We get stuck either in Manhattan, Philadelphia or Washington areas. When we drive down, our goal is usually to be past DC area before sunrise.
An 8 hour trip can easily become 10, 12 hours if you leave at a less ideal time.
e.t.a. We live at the Queens/Nassau border.

Re: How far is North Carolina?
I think my DH drives really fast (and a radar detector doesn't hurt! ) but it's taken us 12 hours to get to GA...we're usually in NC by hour 9. We are going between 80-90mph the whole time though. And the one trip we were tired and took lots of breaks, it took us 14 hours to get back to NY from GA. NC is about 3-5 hours away from GA. So the 8 hours could be right!
I'm sorry Lori...I see moving trucks in your future!

Yes, from Long Island to Charlotte (which is at the very south of North Carolina), it is a 11.5 - 12 hour ride with stops for bathroom breaks and to eat, etc. You can probably do it in 10.5 hours if you are serious about it, not too many stops, etc.

Re: How far is North Carolina?
I am so happy to see so many people wanting to move to N.C. I just moved here a little over a month ago and love it. I would say with stops, depending on where you are going you could get to most places in N.C. in about 10-12 hours. It is definitely a drive you can do in 1 day.
