Did you try to Mr. Clean Magic eraser? That usually takes out anything.

Mr Clean Magic Eraser cleans ANYTHING and EVERYTHING.
If that doesn't do it (and you'll need a few bc they fall apart) then it's time to think about reglazing the tub.
Also, it may not even be dirty. Could be the enamel worn down from too much cleaning.

I use comet and spray it with mean green let it sit for a little while then use a scrub brush. My tub always comes out spotless.

good old Comet powder and a scrub brush usually work for me. Also CLR is pretty good too.

Re: bath tub cleaner
I use Soft Scrub and a brush. Baking soda and a brush works just as well. Tub is the original 1953 model that came with the apartment and still looks good, very minimal scratching.

i didnt even think of that...we rent an apartment so im sure its old! i had sprayed cleaning stuff on the walls and let it sit...and probably let it sit too long...and it looks like what is in the tub is nastiness from the walls (its only on the half of the tub that has the wall). i didnt think the walls were that dirty though...we spray them down monthly. normally i spray and then scrub and rinse, but being pregnant the chemicals i use are way to harsh for me so i just spray and then DH rinses.
