Are bunting suits safe?
I saw the cutest infant bunting suit for LO. It was 0-3 mos so LO can wear it duribg the winter (i'm due in Jan). But are they safe to wear in the car seat? Its fleece not a heavy snow suit. I'm just confused about them. I know nothing heavy or bulky between lo and the car seat straps...so when would the baby ever wear the suit since we'd always travel by car? Thanks!

I have one for ds and I when I tried putting it on him, I was not able to properly secure him in the car seat, so I have been using the car seat cover, and I figure I will use the bunting suit when it is cold outside and I go for a walk with him in the stroller.

I don't like them in the carseat because I feel like I can't get the straps tight enough. You can use it if you put baby directly in the stroller for walks. Or for pics in their "first snow" (that's what I did with DS)
A car seat inspector once showed me a quick check that you can do, if you want to after the baby is born, but you can also remember this to check the thickness of toddler coats as they get older....
Put coat on child and strap them into carseat, adjust the straps so you think they are tight enough.
Without loosening straps, unbuckle child and remove coat.
Again, without adjusting straps, place child back into carseat and buckle.
Note how much room there is between child and straps. If more then 2 fingers width, then straps are unable to be tight enough with jacket on.

As the others said, not safe in a car seat but fine for stroller/walks. I brought my preemie newborns home in that blizzard after the Hurricane. The hospital would not let us put them in snowsuits in the carseats! they said the baby can go flying out of the snowsuit because the straps grip the bunting instead of them. I got the jjcole bundleme cover instead. Sucks because my buntings are so cute
